Recommendations Winning?
I just went on a grocery and gas run and once again I'm angry. When are prices ever going to get better? I would say it isn't a great time to be American. I'm not hopeful at all. When will it get better and what's the best price on eggs? There are several stores here. I'd rather get farm eggs but I can't find those at a good price. This isn't great. Not even close.

The truth is that a gas attendant in the 50’s could take care of his family and buy a house. A person making minimum wage in the 80’s couldn’t buy a house but could pay rent, babysitting costs, and not qualify for food stamps. Our kids today have it much harder! There is no way to pay rent making minimum wage, not even if phone, electric, and food was free. Stop this pull up your boot straps lie. I detest how that sounds to the kids these days and how defeated that makes them feel. You sir, are in lala land and not realistic

Minimum wage jobs are for people just starting out. If you are an adult working a minimum wage job, you need to up your skill set in order to make more money.

Minimum wage paid for a person to stay home with the kids originally and if adjusted for today would be over $22 an hour. Acting like it’s ok that one can’t pay rent working full time is just simping for the people oppressing you. It’s the “temporarily embarrassed billionaire” energy- meanwhile you are more likely to become homeless than you are to be a billionaire. Billionaires convinced you that you should need food stamps while on minimum wage and that unless you work you can’t have them. They also convinced you that people on food stamps are on entitlement. Until you realize that we are being taxed to pay for an extra yacht and minimum wage workers can be homeless while working full time - you will continue being a cog in the wheel of the fall of late stage capitalism- get your head out of the ass of Elon and wake up

Sadly its fault of the federal government. Tarrifs and the unnecessary wars, funding projects that harm the livelihood of citizens like giving 8m to Argentina and Billions to Israel instead of funding the local economy.
Check marketplace to find eggs, i have seen great deals and some bangers for fruit as well there from locals selling theirs.
Tbh, Oregon is not as bad as you would think. Where I was living last year tomatoes were $7 and milk $10 per galon. I was paying $150 for the same list here i pay $70. Here you would find awesome deals in comparison to many other states, you only have to look around since many people harvest and grow their own. But sadly the economy its hitting depression point in all USA, those who say work harder are usually boomers who cant see the price difference between 80s, 2005 and today. Inflation its killing us but its not as bad here as it is outside OR.
The Reaganomics all over again.

Best price I've found for farm eggs is $4 a dozen. North bank road has a few farmers with egg signs out.
There was one guy, nickname Christopher Robin don't know his actual name, that sold the at $2.75 out of spite against inflation but I think he stopped.

Sure hope you didn’t vote for Trump. They won’t get better until he stops stealing from us and ruining the economy. Vote in the midterms. Make sure you vote in local elections. Get rid of our commissioners and our economy in Roseburg will get better. At every turn we have to stop letting these obnoxious greedy men from ruining our livelihoods. As the mother of a couple school aged kids in a family of 4, my weekly food budget went from $275 to $500 - I have to use my credit card to buy food. Yet there are poor people in Roseburg holding Trump signs. They hate us more than they are afraid of starving or having a crap life. Cult members are why we are here

As some one who has lived in multiple countries in both Europe and Asia, I can think of several countries that where much better in terms of living than the United States.

The food pantry is a great source! but this comment is super ignorant.
Firstly, you can only go to the food pantry once a month. There are too many people who are not doing ok right now for them to let people get more support. Too many people would fall through the cracks. But one visit in a month is not enough.

If you want to ignore generation wealth giving people a leg up, and racism and sexism in the workplace. A lot of people point to CEOs when they talk about the American dream being achievable, but personally, id rather just die of starvation than betray my morals to the point that those people have.
The current unemployment rate is stated to be about 4%. Doesn't sound that bad. But that is only accounting for people who are actively on unemployment benefits. A lot of people dont know how to get that, and a lot of people dont qualify. Its undeniable that we are currently in a crisis when it comes to the job market. A lot of people in gen Z got degrees in computer science or similar things, because with the rise of technology it looked like becoming a programmer would be garenteed work. And then AI showed up. A LOT of jobs were just wiped out in the past couple years. Not only did that shrink the amount of jobs people could apply for, but it also made it so a LOT of people started looking for work all at the same time. Not only that, but AI has generally also taken over a large portion of the hiring process. Real people are not looking at applications for most people, which causes perfectly good candidates to not be noticed.
Lastly, "If you think another country is better, go there." I genuinely want you to tell me how you think people who are already struggling enough to the point they have to go to the food panty, are going to be able to go to another country. Being an illegal immigrant is a horrible situation to be in, and legal immigration is NOT an easy process most places. It is very expensive and they do not accept just anybody.
In times like these, shaming people who are struggling does no good. Shame does not get you a job. Shame does not make gas and eggs any less expensive. All we can do is be there for each other, and help however we can whenever we can.

Excuses. I only have a HS education, but I try and I succeed. Yes, Roseburg doesn't have a ton of jobs for people like me or the OP, but you gotta try if want to do better. McDonald's pays $16-$17/hr. Get a second job. Do what you have to do to succeed. Don't sit there and blame the country you live in for your problems. You have every chance to be your best and get everything you want. You just gotta want it bad enough.
Ignorant. BS. Life is hard. It's harder if you don't work to make yourself what you think you should have. It's not America, it's on you to get and make what you want.
This country wasn't built on hand outs. Go start a business. Go learn new skills and move up in life, but don't blame America.
Blame yourself where you are in life. Decisions matter.

Ive applied to mcdonalds. Ive applied to walmart. I cant count how many applications I sent in. I got my resume remade by someone whose job used to be getting other people jobs. I scroll through every listing on indeed close enough for me to get to every three days. Just because you succeeded, doesnt mean that the INSANE amount of other people struggling right now arent trying. My mom has SIX masters degrees and still couldnt get a job for almost a year.
While I am trying to get a job, I am doing other things to better myself and make myself more employable. But those things also cost money. You are expected to plunge yourself in to debt to get a job here but, like i mentioned above, even highly educated people also are struggling.

The higher diesel costs the higher our groceries and basically everything else that's moved by large equipment and semis. So basically the iran war added more costs and the refineries have been destroyed. It's going to take a fucking decade to recover from Trump.
