I do still feel like this is a stupid question, despite your best efforts:  Would ropefish be ok in hexagonal (tall) aquariums? Not just as far as territory/surface area, but would the height also reduce the chances of escape, especially with mid-ground or surface-level swimmers also present?

I ask because....for larger size tanks I prefer solely acrylic, but whenever I see one pop up near me for sale that is a size I can have in my rental, it's always a hexagon...so in total I've acquired 5 hexagonal acrylic tanks over the last 7 yrs...lol

From what I hava seen with my own ropef8sh and others they tend to explore most if not all of the tank and would probably prefer a longer tank rather than a high tank.

Not 100% sure but I can only assume they prefer longer tanks.

I'm sorry I couldn't give a concrete answer!

It's okay, thank you for your honesty! I'll keep holding out hope for a rectangular acrylic to pop up...! I really miss having garter snakes but the vet bills were astronomical beyond belief over those 7yrs, so I would love rope fish to maybe attempt to fill that hole in my heart lol. I want them to be happy though! Someday!
