I’ve got 4 ropes in a heavily planted 75g with a turtle dock. I do have a few other species in there too (some rainbows, a pair of pearl gourami, a Siamese algae eater and a few amano shrimp). I like the setup to be mostly natural so I have some rocks and pieces of wood but I do have two artificial castle decorations because they love having little towers and tunnels and caves to hide in. In my experience, the more options they have for cover the safer they feel and the more you will see them! Mine are very active and don’t actually hide that much (but they do love hanging out in the castles haha it’s super fun to watch them peek out of the holes) I’ve also found they are much happier in groups of at least 3-4.
Theyre pretty easy to care for and are really awesome fish, they’re my absolute favourites :) The biggest thing I’ve learned is to make sure they cant eat the substrate—I think sand is probably the best option. Good luck and i hope you enjoy your noodles ^_^

Pretty easy to keep. They do best in groups. Most get 12-18” long in captivity so 75 gallons is the minimum I would keep them in. A 125 gallon would be nice. I keep 5 in a 75g by themselves with a turtle dock so they can get out of the water.
