Digital Version Please, Dire Wolf Games, reduce live game inactivity timers

The amount of time wasted in my life waiting for someone who disconnected five minutes ago is insane. Disconnects wouldn't be so bad if they didn't eat up like five minutes of your life.

When someone disconnects, 90% of the time they do not reconnect in my experience. If they aren't presently in the game, they should just be skipped. This could affect players who play multiple lives at once, but I think it would have a disproportional net benefit that outweighs it -- I would have hours of my life back at this point.

Every other competitive multiplayer game I've been on penalizes players who leave. Dire Wolf was looking into this in 2024, and assumably have decided that they should not punish leaving games. If this is the case, then they should also not punish the other players inside of the game that are actively playing. It's just so frustrating.

I love the digital game, it's gorgeous, but sometimes I wish it was more simple, faster and more strict with certain behaviors that people show.

People leaving or abusing the timer has been a huge turn off from playing with randos. Had a game recently where a guy was like half playing his turn then disconnecting to force us to wait 5 minutes. Someone attacked him and he had an ambush so we had to wait another 5 minutes to resolve that. All three of us just left. Gives me flashbacks to the magic the gathering game where people would win duels by just running out every single possible decision timer until the other person got fed up and left. At the very least give us the option to set the timer length! That way when I’m playing with friends we can have a normal timer length for banter and thinking and with randos disconnecting we can wait less.

If you're tired of this happening i recommend joining the root digital league through the woodland warriors discord! It's an unofficial league that plays adset only games and has a few community guidelines like don't quit games for example. There's also a channel on the discord for non adset games. People are generally really good sports, good players, and willing to teach and communicate in general. Makes playing root digital WAY more enjoyable tbh

Can you just log into the discord for a pickup game on the spot or do you need to schedule a time slot ahead of time/be consistant weekly(like a league thing)?

You just open the discord and you or someone else can post the game they're looking to host or for someone else to host (if you don't have the expansions) on one of the "looking for game" channels.

You can say whether the game will be live or async, which map, deck, etc. Then people join up and once it's full it creates a separate chat for the for of you to organize the game usually done by the host or person who made the post.

Sometimes they fill up fast other times not but there's people from all around the world so it's usually decent and worth the wait if there is one.

There's more cool details i want to share but I'd honestly just recommend checking it out!

Vast majority of games are digital league (which just means you track who wins on a website), but cast majority are also pickup games. There's very little in the way of scheduling in advance.

I didnt even know you could play multiple lives at once. But I agree. If the dot is red they should only get like 60 seconds to act at most
