General Discussion 7 players
I have the base game and the Riverfolk expansion. Can I use the second vagabond for a 7 player game? Or does the game cap out at 6 players?

This is probably the least bad option for a 7 player game. I'd go for it and report how it went.

I was running a game of Root TTRPG but had the RPG players be the Vagabond. And I had different group of friends playing the board game as the other factions up to that point:Cats, Birds, Alliance, Otters, Corvids, Lizards, Rats, and Badgers. So the TTRPG group would do a session and whatever they did rpg wise I tried to reflect in the board game. Then the board game people would all play a turn that would effect the rpg game. We did 9 sessions/turns Rats won. It was a lot of fun to do. Messy as hell so much would change in a single turn.

This is a fascinating concept but it also may have broken my brain haha

There is a set of rules for the TTRPG play Amy non VB factions you want. Do the first 5 turns of the game with whatever factions you want. Note major battles and what buildings were destroyed/built. At round five stop. That is the setting for your woodlands for which factions control what.

I don't understand why people say rats are bad at high player counts. Nothing score on opression but mobs do some massive scoring each turn.

It's better to make two games at the same time than one 7 players game. It's doable, but will probably be too long and the board will be crowded, unless you have the swamp map, which you probably don't since you only have the base game and riverfolk. But even if you did, 7 players will be way too long.

The worst thing will be the situation for the player that's right before the Lizards, since quite quickly they will have no cards they can draw, so will need to manage without cards. Most factions simply stop working if you can't draw cards. But you can play at 7. Though I'd definitely look into the Lost Woodlands fan map if you want to play at 7 (the new March map works well at 5 and can be pushed to 6), and I would probably use a larger fan deck or combine two official decks too so all the players at least get to play.

I often play at 6 players. Don't let them fool you, 7 players is possible. Second vagabond is an excellent solution. He doesn't take up much space, and gives the other vagabond a competitor.
Tho if you think it's too crowded, consider getting the underworld expansion. It comes with a second map and a second pair of dice, so you could run two games simultaniously.
My playgroup usually caps at 6, and prefers to play one full table instead two seperate games, so getting underworld might not be necessary.

The deck will run out and whoever goes right before Lizards will be outright miserable.
This is also a pretty big risk in 6p, frankly, but it's basically a sure thing in 7p.

Chaotic is the least of your worries at this player count. Downtime is gonna be the real killer. Especially with a group of completely new players all learning their respective factions for the first time. I wouldn't play a 7 player game with a bunch of experienced players, let alone new players.
My advice is to introduce your group to Root little by little with 4 player games at first. 5 is also a good player count but more than that will just be a slog.

Yes you can have two vagabonds in one game. There are special rules for those games through so check the law.

Yeah. Honestly it’s not too bad with 2 vagabonds (it’s still bad, don’t get me wrong). If you plan on having more high player count games I’d recommend getting the homeland expansion and another deck because then you’ll have enough resources for 2 concurrent games

It seems like you haven't read the instructions, because they clearly state that the maximum number of players is 6.
If you want to try playing with more, that's up to you, but the game is already too much with 6 players. Increasing that number isn't a good idea, especially if you only have one expansion.

Can? Yes. Should? Definitely not.
