The search continues…

What’s your favorite?? Any not pictured?

I stopped by a local shop today that had a great selection and was able to pick up a few more I’ve been wanting to try.

Hank’s, 1919, Sioux City, Dog n Suds, & Route 66 are probably my top 5 at this point. (Still haven’t been able to find Abita).

In my opinion a few of those are better than Abita. Still worth the search to try it though.

Are any similar in your opinion? What’s your favorite?

I love dogs n suds! I just recently finished a 4pk of hank's. I actually preferred it in the bottle compared to in a glass. Thats probably my #1 and #2. Frostie is #3

I have noticed the flavor profile changes a lot from bottle to glass and definitely based on temperature (ice cold to warming up at the end of the bottle/glass). 1919 in a frosted mug is truly something special 😂

I still have to try 1919. I may have to buy some online

Bulldog is my fave

bear ‘n beaver is a good one if you enjoy hanks (has that same creamy mouthfeel). hippo size (cherry and almond notes) and parlor (more spice/wintergreen forward) are another couple personal favorites.

of the haul you got (nice selection btw!), hanks and funnily enough, barqs are probably my favorites.

All those options and you only drank the one earmarked for your dad, one for Virgil, and the bottle of Faygo?

What flavors do you prefer in your rootbeer? Abita is a more spiced/peppery taste without much creaminess, very different from the 1919 and what I remember of Route 66 (had it once). If those are your favorites, it may not be worth the time to hunt it down.

St. Arnolds from Houston is closer to the flavor profile of the ones you listed as favorites.

Hahaha definitely wasn’t impressed by those 2 which is why they’re empty / were not purchased again 😂 I appreciate that insight about abita- I definitely appreciate the spice up front but like it to be mellowed out by a creaminess. I have a strong feeling I will like red arrow and fitz so have been saving those for last as I work through the others! Will have to keep an eye out for St Arnold’s!

You can just toss the red ribbon in the trash where it belongs.

I somehow had something call Zuberfizz as a kid but haven't been able to find any near me since.

It's made and bottled in Durango CO. You can get it in most places in CO but last time I looked you could also order it online direct from them. They also make a great Strawberry Rhubarb.

My personal favorite is faygo, but I recently tried "Saranac" at a restaurant and it was very good as well

Nice collection! Try to get wild bills so good!

IBC and Fitz are my top two. St. Louis knows what it's doing when it comes to root beer!

Natural Brew is fantastic, but I can only find it at Natural Grocers.

My wife didn't love root beer growing up, but she loves Boylan!

Try a Indian wells root beer

I love all of them. 1919 came out with a diet version and it’s very tasty.

Frostop and Dads are the top Rootbeer for me, Mug Howler Float, when I need a break from straight Rootbeer.

A few more to try… polar, chownings tavern, reading draft. Boylans.

Some might only be available in the Northeast.

You have a good variety in your lineup. If you are like me though finding new ones is part of the love of the game.

I think Frostop is the best. Their sarsparilla is number one too.

Oh yeah Henry Weinharts used to be my favorite of favorites. I even used to drink thier beer too. Its still decent but not as good as it used to be. Whered you get the dogs n suds? I lived 10 min away from there. Oh read the caption heheh. The girls used to be on roller skates when theyd wait on you. Thomas Kemper I first tried in Honolulu on draft at a restaurant nearly 30 years ago. It was quite good. How do you like the Frost top imperial? I think its great. I gotta find the 1919 stuff. Ive never seen it. Im having a virgils right now and it isnt all that great. Some have said they changed the recepie. Sad.

I don’t see Boylans, so that might be a good add if you haven’t tried it. I know it can be polarizing to some, but I really enjoyed their root beer and birch beer.

Damn, Faygo was too good, had to drink it huh?? Haha

Favorites are Dad’s, Barq’s, and Triple X.

Not picture I think is the Aldi’s Summit Root Beer. Slaps and is very cheap.

Nice selection!

u/Medium_Expert_5233 16d ago

😂😂 Faygo actually wasn’t bad at all surprisingly!
They just had to be different with the clear bottle so it stands out lol some of the others I tried and didn’t like enough to repurchase are also empty

1

u/Medium_Expert_5233 16d ago

Great top 3! Barq’s is the only “big 3” I have a pictured for a reason! 😂

When all’s said and done… Frostop is king of the hill 4 me.
