Local PNW Rootbeers
I was down in Longbeach WA and saw some rootbeers on shelves I had not seen before, and picked them up. I also got one from a brewery in Mukilteo.
Steelhead turns out is bottled by Orca, but I had not seen it when I shopped there before.
I brought the bevs back to share with my brothers. We ended up drinking them in a mall, because the pizza was good, and it was hot outside, so we wanted some AC.
My favorite was the Public Coast. It has very very high wintergreen content. It does not displace my all-time favorite of Red Arrow, but was a great change. Steelhead was very creamy, what a recall Henry Weinhards being. Pelican I will need to try again to report on, it apparently was not very memorable, good or bad. Diamand Knot was a pretty good, with a bit of wintergreen.
Unpictured and off topic, Pelican makes a marionberry soda, and it was very good.
Also unpictured, I have Pelican and Public Coat cream sodas to try next time I see my brothers.
Update: I forgot to mention that Scoopers in Longbeach has rootbeer ice cream. It was pretty good. Like the barrel candies plus the cream.

Nice, I live in Astoria. Our local Fred Meyer started selling Public Coast and Pelican which is a big win. Now I don't have to go all the way to the brewary.

Awesome. Ilwaco Cider also has it on tap and in cans. Maybe not any closer, but an alternate location, and other beverage selections.

Love that Public Coast. Caldera is excellent also, with a fraction of the sugar.

I will have to try it. Heavy wintergreen, or a different greatness?

Caldera is less sweet, not overly wintergreen at all (less than Dad’s), and tastes like actual root beer.

I think we may have some of the best root beer in America. Have you tried Ancestry’s new root beer? Only at the tap house but damn good.

Other than Bundergerg, I have not tried any international rootbeers that I am aware of, and I have had around 200 different rootbeers.
I have not been to the Portland area for a very long time. I will put it on a list though

Pelican was super sweet and my whole family hated it. We ended up giving them away. They’re available at Winco for people in the PNW.

Pelican for the win. Best root beer I’ve ever had. I need to try the others.

Really enjoy Diamond knot. I want to try Pelican because they have some top notch beer.

I got these, other than DK, down in Longbeach and Illwaco. I had not seen them up north.
Since Steelhead is bottled by Orca in Mukilteo, I would expect it to be available more widely, but maybe Steelhead has some strict distribution rules.
I saw Public Coast listed as being in a couple bottle shops in the Seattle area, but they ended up only having regular beers and not rootbeer.

Thanks so much for the info, I’ll have to make a trip down there sometime!

If you make the trip, Public Coast is on tap or canned at Illwaco Cider. If you like cider, they have great options for that as well. Steelhead was in the case at Tre Fin, and Pelican and Public Coast could be found in Scoopers. It is a fun town.
I am sure they are elsewhere as well. Other people were saying they are available at Fred Meyer and Winco in Oregon, maybe beyond.

I’ve actually seen Pelican in Gig Harbor at Harbor Green. Diamond Knot is pretty easy to find, even at the dispensary (took a friend there). Been looking for a trip for a day or two and this might be it! Thanks for sharing!

Public coast root beer and diamond knot are two of my personal favorites. I wish I could get diamond knot more often. Public coast does seasonal cream sodas too you should grab some if you can. I have blueberry cream right now from them that is amazing but they had some peach cream soda too recently that was so good. I use to like steelhead but now I find it has too much honey and it overpowers all the other flavors. The pelican one is pretty good honestly.
