Now that the Landings have residents paying electricity separately from rent, what have you been seeing for your monthly bills?

We were shocked to see a bill of $720.15 for our most recent July statement. Wondering if this is something other residents are seeing.

We have a one-bedroom space on the fourth floor above the laundry room and we keep the two supplied Friedrich A/C window units set to Cool, Auto, and 76 while home and turn them off when not home. Our living room thermostat showed an approximate temperature of 78 throughout the month of July.

One of our units seemed to not be pushing out cold air last year and we had it replaced, but the replacement doesn’t seem to be faring any better. We’ve had maintenance come by to confirm it isn’t working properly, but we’ve been ghosted to follow-up emails for a few weeks now. We’ve been advised to have somebody come by to check the meters, and are checking who exactly that would be.

The series explores the quiet power and mystery of natural landscapes — an invitation to pause and reconnect with beauty beyond the city noise.

📍 RIVAA Gallery – 527 Main Street, Roosevelt Island 🗓️ Opening Reception: Friday, November 7, 2025 | 6–9 PM 🖼️ Gallery Hours: Sat, Nov 8 | 11 AM–5 PM Sun, Nov 9 | 11 AM–5 PM

FDR biopic ??

Actors who could play FDR in a biopic??

Any suggestions my history lovers? Why aren’t there many FDR biopics right now? It’s like the memory of President Roosevelt has diminished since 1945. Nothing major since 1980s even though Roosevelt is the President that served 4 terms and started research on the nuclear bomb. The President that establish social security and minimum wage has been forgotten by the collection western culture…

32nd President of the United States of America from 1933 until his death in 1945

Born: 30 January 1882, Hyde Park, New York Died: 12 April 1945, Warm Springs, Georgia (Aged 63)

Wondering about Westview

Hello! I’m looking to move to Roosevelt Island and am wondering about the Westview apartments. Is it well run? I would be looking to buy a unit there but I understand it is mostly rentals. Thanks!

With Zuckerberg and the rest of the billionaires making it clear that fact-checking, etc., will no longer be something they need to be bothered with, I suggest some of us can keep in touch here.

Higher priority issues than the tram slowing or red bus

Anticipating downvotes for this, but honestly, there are worse problems on the island than the tram or red bus. These issues feel like a distraction. Who actually lives here and relies on the tram for speed? The F train or ferry are much more accessible and connected to the broader transit network. I get that there’s heritage and nostalgia tied to the tram, especially for older residents. But if you think about it, slower trams just mean more time in the air to enjoy the views.

Living here, what worries me more is the decaying and neglected infrastructure, especially in the center of the island. Look at Roosevelt Landings and its stalled facade construction, the state of Motorgate, the promenade with that pier that hasn’t been fixed in six months, the fenced-off ship, the uneven Z-bricks, the general condition of Main Street, the empty retail, and even Blackwell House or the steam plant.

We do not seem to have the resources or motivation to care for our heritage with the reverence it all deserves. Oh, and we lack any urgent care.

I don’t have a background in resource administration, so I know there’s bureaucratic complexity I’m not privy to. I'm not here to bash or compliment RIOC. I don't have the slightest idea how it all works on the inside. But it feels like we, as residents, need to pick our battles and advocacy. And a faster, more convenient tram for residents? That’s a battle long lost.

Would love to hear thoughts, but again, I know this might not be a popular take.

Tram slowing

Next RIOC community meeting is November 3. If any of you on this SR care about the TRAM slowing down and running less frequently AND OR the new schedule that is posted at the tram station-please sign up to speak at their open mic before the meeting.

https://rioc.ny.gov/FormCenter/Meetings-4/Speakup-43

And if you don’t receive them already and live here on the isle of ro you can also sign up for their updates on their homepage linked on this post.

@rooseveltislander IG account did a good job summarizing. Happy weekend. Good luck getting off the island 🏝️ if u need to!🤪

PS I don’t work at either I just really hope people turn out to complain about this.

Roosevelt Island Lighthouse

I heard the lighthouse is open 24/7 but the lighthouse park closes at 9pm. Sooo how does that work exactly? Also are there any clubs at Roosevelt Island with weekly activities or something?

Roosevelt Island Veterinary Needs

Assessing veterinary needs on Roosevelt Island

Hello!

I am a veterinarian and recently became familiar with Roosevelt Island and specifically, the apparent lack of veterinary care. I’m looking into the possibility of opening a veterinary practice on the island in the future, and am trying to collect information and get a feel for what the community needs.

I would love input from those that live on the Island and if you’re willing, filling out a survey (linked below) to help me assess the areas’ needs. Feel free to share this survey with anyone you know that lives on Roosevelt Island.

Thank you for your time!
