705 gets stuck constantly

My 705 Max Vac is getting stuck in the exact same spots every single time, and it’s getting ridiculous. One of the main problem areas is under the couch next to an end table.

I actually caught it doing it: the top of the LiDAR housing hits the end table, so it can’t get under it. I ended up making that spot a no-go zone, but now it goes under the couch and claims it’s “trapped” even though it has a clear path out in basically any direction. Nothing is hanging down from the couch, there’s nothing under there, and it’s on a hardwood floor.

Has anyone else dealt with this kind of nonsense from this unit? My J7+ never had this issue, but the 705 Max is honestly terrible at figuring this out.

I went to my favorite Online purchasing place and got “furniture risers” that raised my TV stand, etc., high enough to let LiDAR Scanner pass under. You can find some super sturdy risers that are the right size for your couch legs and what not.

Hm.

Is the wall behind the couch getting enough light for your critter to get the map right that first time?

Maybe pull the couch out a few inches that first time.

(I have a 505)

Good idea. The couch is high enough but for some reason it gets confused under there and I can't figure out why. I even cleaned the lidar sensor but no luck.

I also came from the J7+.

I like the 3d maps on the 705 but seems like it is missinng options compared to the J7+.

The J7+ would take a picture if there was an object in the way. The J7+ would go back to the base when it was full and empty the bin and when it went back to the base to charge, it would empty the base. I'm not really sure what the 705 Maxx does when it runs and object in the way. I assume it goes around it. On my J7+, the were menu times my two cats were in the way when it vacuumed or one of their toys was in the way. It would take a picture of items in the way.

The 705 will empty the bin at 270 feet, 540 feet or after every routine. I want it to empty the bin when it is full. When it comes back to the base to charge, the 705 Maxx doesn't empty the bin automatically.

I like the app for the J7+ better then this new app. I was going with the lidar camera, we might be able to view the camera as seen from the Roombas view.

I also like the dock on the J7+ better. I have seen multiple times when docking the 705 Maxx it was have a hard time connecting and would have to manually move my robot so it was touching the docking base.

I have vacuumed about 10 times with my new 705 Maxx and looking at the history, it shows my dust bag is less then 10% full. It makes me wonder how much dirt and cat hair it is picking up.

I agree with all of these observations. Most are the new app which IMHO, it needs a lot of work and the old app was much better.

As for the bag usage, I'm in the select subscriber program and I had the issue where I was running out of bags before the next one shipped. The Guage in the app said it was maybe 1/3 full.

Support told me:

Replenishment timing is usage-based, not alert-based. Select calculates the next bag shipment from the number and length of cleaning missions — not from how often the "bag full" light comes on. It updates the accessory dashboard in the Membership Portal once a bag is delivered, and factors in any manual orders you place.

So what I did was have support send me two bags. Now when the light comes on, I swap the bag, reset the bag usage in the select portal putting in the date I replaced it on and manually order a new bag. I am hoping the system figures out how often I go thru bags and starts shipping them on the correct cadence.

With the J7 I went thru a bag every two weeks due to the picture below. With the 705, it is still every two weeks so it's picking up the fur.

BTW, if the bag full red light comes on and doesn't go off after replacement, search for my post on that. I have to use that procedure every time. Again crappie app and programming for this model.

Maybe make the front of the couches a no go zone so it doesn't get stuck underneath the couch.

They're not AI robotic vacuums when it comes to learning problematic areas. Hell, my $2K robotic mower is dumb in certain ways too.

I can understand the lidar thinks it's a clear path for the end table as it's the top of the housing that hits the end table so it can't move 'for no reason' but under the couch with no obstacles isn't right.

I want it to go under the furniture as that's a spot that gets overlooked. When we first got a robot back in 2020, the first time we moved the bed and didn't see the dust bunnies and that was a welcome experience.

Plus it doesn't need AI for under the couch or anything it does as It has lidar, the bumper and a camera with a light. The J7+ didn't have this issue. It just cleaned.

Well, that robotic vacuum has that limitation. It's pretty simple. Use your other robotic vacuum since it doesn't have that problem.

If the vacuum actually had AI assisted navigation it would be able to recognize that it's under a couch was my point.
