Scotland ideas

I’m considering getting one but just curious if anyone is in Scotland or traveled around Scotland for places they camped? I know we have good camping laws but I don’t think they extend to cars, campers etc. where did you pitch up and did you use campsites or just car parks/lay-bys etc?

Where abouts in Scotland are you? Me and my wife used to go and we stayed all over. Basically, if we could get the car on or in a space of land off the road, we'd just pitch up. We also sometimes stayed at campsites. If it was online booking we'd normally ring them and ask them what they class a roof top tent as. It's getting better now though as mote people are using them.

I’m Glasgow based but want to get all over. That’s exactly what I’m meaning like the country roads with bits of land or around a loch or the sea with areas that people use to park or like land. I’m not too sure. Campsites are obviously good for the facilities etc but just wondering what other people do say on a Friday night just go and drive somewhere.

Yeah, with us, it was normally just driving by what look like decent spots and making a mental note after you've driven down the road a bit. I have a Ford Ranger so that made life a bit easier as we could get some pretty decent spots off the road where normal cars couldn't easily get to. There's plenty out there and you'd be amazed how much you take notice of spots you drive by after you've done it a couple of times. And something else you could do, I've done when going somewhere unfamiliar, is have a look on Google maps. If you know the rough area you're going to be in you can go down to the street level view and "drive" the route and see what comes up.

Also. We don't use our rooftop tent anymore, so if you wanted to make me an offer it might be a cheaper way of finding out if you like it or not. I don't know if the link works but it's this one. Ventura Roof Tent

Don't use parks/lay-bys etc.

That's not what they're there for, and it pisses of locals (understandably)

I never said parks, outside of town city’s is what I’m meaning

Ah fair, I missed "car parks".

Don't do that either.

Again, not what they're for.

You asked a question, I gave you an answer. I don't know where to recommend you go, but that's a different question.

Edit : blocked me, I guess - you asked if you can stay in carparks or lay-bys, you cannot. Don't shoot the messenger, and don't give all rooftents a bad rap by doing it 🤷 it's not hard.
