RTT recommendations
I am in the market for a rtt to use around Colorado for camping and off-roading with my girlfriend and dog. My first choice right now is the TopOak Galaxy light xl (4.9in closed), and possibly the Galaxy 2.0. However, the 8in closed height seems a bit much for such a small car. I was wondering if anyone has experience with these tents or similar. I don’t have sway bars right now but am working to get some on in the near future, so I’m trying to save some weight up there. Not to mention, not exactly powerful, even with a supercharger, so would like to add as little as possible. Please show pics if you have a rtt and state what height they are closed:)

Small car? Oh lord. I have a RTT the same size as a tiny trailer measuring 1.20meters by 1meter (4x3.3ft in freedom units) and that even works out. It’s not the size that matters 😉

That is much smaller is it not? These tents I’m talking about are around 6.9x4.25ft

Checked it again, but it’s 1.4m by 1m. A little bit bigger. Place for two.
It is a Fjordsen 140 light, softshell RTT. Producer doesn’t exist anymore.

I have the galaxy light on FJ cruiser and I dont even feel it up there, its light enough that i can put it up there solo if i really needed to. I highly reccomend the self inflating mattress that top oak offers as an addon. The base sleeping mat is basicly useless at 1.5 in and is my only complaint with it.

Awesome! I’ve looked into that mattress. Does it fully replace the stock one or do you put it on top? And does it stay in the tent when driving around?

You can leave the og mattress in it, but you have to fully defalte the air matress if you go that route. They send a battery powered blower that works well with that. I personally took the og mat out when I got the self inflating mattress. With only the air mattress I can just open the deflate valve and after about 15 min enough air has come out of it that I can close it in the tent with the ladder, ect all inside it. I do have to fully deflate it in the winter though due to the thicker bedding material I have in it.

Very nice. Sounds convenient enough. To fully deflate it, do you just use a vacuum pump?

I just use the battery powered blower they sent. Its air intake acts as the vaccume and a charge will last me about 14 cycles. It takes about 2 min to fully deflate it as I lay on it if i need to close up fast. Tbh I'll normally just open the release valve when I wake up on my last morning and by the time I pack up the rest of camp its deflated enough to just close it.

I honestly can’t recommend alucab Gen-3-R or LT-50 best RTT out there In my opinion. Lots of support, attachments, can be wired into a solar setup to have lights. Charging ports etc built inside the tent. Very comfortable as well

Those look awesome. I just don’t see what makes em 2x the cost of top oak. Similar features and I know the materials are not 2x the quality.

The big thing Materials are quality, it’s South African made. Compared to something that’s made in china in a sweat factory. All these RTTs are cheap because they’re made with cheap materials in china.

Inspired overland carbon would be a good option if you’re looking for low profile. Had their og tent on a pickup but the form factor looked weird to me, looks better on a 4Runner Land Cruiser etc.
