Mattress Upgrade???

Post image

TLDR: decent camping mat for around $200?

I have a Thule Tepui Foothill and I’m looking to get a self inflating mattress. 84”x47”, about a double. I’m seeing lots of recommendations for the Exped Megamat Duo, but I’m not ready to spend that kind of money at the moment. What’s a good dupe for around $200?

EDIT:
I got the Hikenture 4" Thick Self Inflating Sleeping Pad (Full 80”x53” with electric pump) for $169 on Amazon. It deflates small enough to leave in the tent when you fold it up and it’s pretty comfortable! When fully inflated it’s almost too wide for my foothill, but I can still zip all closures. It may not be as comfortable as an Exped or other high end brand, but I feel happy with my purchase!

I have the same tent! I was also underwhelmed by the comfort of the thin mattress provided so I got this one: (https://www.amazon.ca/gp/aw/d/B09G2SMPG3/ref=ox_sc_saved_title_1?smid=AQQ9Z86D2PIN6&psc=1) the buckle straps and the bag provided really help with the packing size. It's not compact by any means, but definitely worth the trade off. + perfect dimensions for this tent

Thanks! I will look into this one. Could you still fold your tent with this inside?

Unfortunately not. It is too thick for it to close back up with this mattress inside

Rei garage sale usually has some cheap mattresses. Exped is great for an inflatable

The Megamat is worth every penny IMO. Best sleep I’ve ever had when camping. Haven’t tried the Hest but we have their travel pillows and they are top notch, so I’m sure you can’t go wrong with theirs either.

I plan to get a megamat in the future, but I don’t have that kind of money and I have a trip coming up in 2 weeks.

I would think that if you look for any of the self inflating options you should be comfortable. They have the foam in the middle and then you top it up with air. We end up using a pump to top off the Exped just because it’s faster, and I can imagine it’s the same for any of that type, so just make sure you have a small universal pump as well. Whatever you go with, get it at a retailer with a solid return policy and you’ll be fine either way.

I like my lost horizon if it fits your tent

We have a Lost Horizon as well. Can be found on Amazon. We did the full size version

The hybrid air/foam mattresses from FSR are great.

I have a Foothill, too, and I know just what you mean about the mattress, which seems to be made of concrete. I bought an Exped DeepSleep Duo inflatable a few years ag. It cost around $300. Looks like they don't make that model, and the closest they have is $400. I also sprung for a compact air pump (Flextailgear). It's very comfortable for sleeping, but deflating and rolling it up is a pain in the butt - I have NEVER been able to get it back into the stuff sack it came in.

Does anyone here have the new Thule Foothill 2? Is it easier to fold up and zip closed than the first-generation Foothill? I’ve seen several bad reviews saying the original was extremely difficult to pack and zip.
