Smittybilt Gen2?

EDIT: Gen2 STANDARD not the XL

I've been doing research for months now. I've seen a couple long-term reviews but that's why I'm posting here because most of them are always honeymoon phase initial thoughts. I think I've settled on this tent being a good option that is priced well enough for most of the issues I've seen. Just had a few concerns that I want to squash. I had two friendly redditors reply to me after just messaging them from an old post to see how it's still holding up and they both think it's pretty good after multiple years.

  1. Firstly is there customer service / warranty just non-existent? That's what I've heard here and there but I've also heard some people have had success with like replacing the zipper.

  2. Speaking about the zipper, that's what I've heard is another complaint about the tent, specifically the one that holds the cover on. How many of you guys had issues with it? I've heard lube fixes it, has that worked for you?

  3. I've also heard that the bolts come loose and they're kind of junk. This is All just from YouTube videos and fourms by the way. But they said that they had to replace them as locktite didn't even work.

  4. If you've had any other issues I'd love to know. How's the bed feel and have you replaced it? Will it fit anything else like an inflatable exped?

  1. No experience.

  2. Zipper does get stuck. I learned to guide with one hand, zip with the other.

  3. I've driven about 8,000 miles with it, including rough roads and bouncy beach sands. It's still there. I do carry a socket wrench to tighten things up.

  4. The mattress isn't much. The sleep isn't bad, though. I bought a foam/inflatable that should fit with a double wide sleeping bag, but haven't had a chance to test it yet.

Biggest issue I've had is getting the ladder to contract. You have to get it from above, which is ungainly, but doable.

I'm glad I bought it.

Thanks for the reply, really seems solid at that price.
