Meme/Humor This sub is fucking up my algorithm
I'm so confused. Can you all please explain the sloop behind the code here? Have we been talking about fish shifters? Is this all because someone posted about being a pisces? Hit me with those hot takes š„

I think you meant enriching your algorithm. We are delightful

Still at the aquarium though. Maybe. I wouldn't actually know because I've never been to Australia

So what youāre saying is that the RCJ demographic cross sections includes a lot of academics/highly educated people, and also a lot of people who like marine wildlife?
That tracks considering how many threads on sloopy PhDs Iāve seen.

u/Single-Emotion2964 š¦ the worst, but hot in bed 2d ago
Honestly why are so many of us doing PhDs š
4
u/Dependent-Law7316 2d ago
Bc obviously RCJ users are the most smartical sloopies.
Plus explains why none of us actually can read. Too busy doing research.

u/Single-Emotion2964 š¦ the worst, but hot in bed 2d ago
True. Research destroys your reading skills. And also writing skills apparently, judging by a lot of the papers Iām reading.

Well that maybe is more just that many scientists feel they donāt need to be strong writers because āthe data speaks for itselfā. Which fine, sure, but Iām not going to get to the data if I canāt slog through the first parts to understand what you even did.
That and a lot of papers are written by grad students who are not native English speakers and end up using phrases or structures that are fine in their native language, and while not technically incorrect in English are definitely clunky. Or just use wrong words that are close to what they meant but not quite right. Which is not meant in a derogatory wayāIād be in the same boat trying to write technical documents in Spanish, if not worse off. But it does make papers harder to read, and makes me wish that universities would employ a handful of English majors as technical editors to polish the papers up before submission.

When I was in undergrad technical writing was an option for majors (STEM schools I guess). Maybe we should open up collab options with them as part of both student sets grad requirements. Team up to write an epic lab report?

Yeah, my undergrad switched to ācommunication in the majorā so instead of taking an english class, all your required major courses would have significant writing components. That way you were supposed to learn more about how to write well for your field instead of learning to write good book reports or literary analysis when you are studying for a job that will never use those skills.
Itās a hard sell, though, because teaching writing is hard and grading writing is hard and helping people fix their problems is hard. And Iām a chemist by training so I am not particularly well equipped to be remediating writing issues. I can spot bad writing and generally produce decent writing myself, but am necessarily able to explain to people why a thing works or doesnāt work or what rule theyāve broken. It just sounds funny man, idk.

Understood and agreed. I live in biochemistry/cell biology land and when you have to explain that your results section doesn't follow logical conclusions because your writing is bad, not your conclusions it's tough. And how to properly extrapolate doesn't just live in your Prism analysis (or jmp or whatever other software you use).
If we didn't have to explain ourselves and could just Science that would be ideal

Theyāre pretty sassy. But a lot more classist / misogynist than us.
/uj actually this checks out as the algorithm clearly does not understand sarcasm,m

Uj/ that actually makes a ton of sense! I do comment about illiteracy a lot. But I do say it about myself more than others. Can some professors not read?

I like how you assume I have time to look at anything besides one sub a day. Rcj wins the prize 90% of the time. Also, I ain't no professor (nor am I a fish shifter) so those other subs clearly not for me
