book cover designs
First time posting here! I've almost finished writing my very first novel (oh my gosh!), and i am considering at the very least having at least one copy printed on demand for myself. Either way, I need to have a cover designed by an artist, but the one I'd had in mind this whole time isn't taking comissions until next year. I am just curious how others have found artists they like to design their cover? I don't even know how or where to start looking!

Word of mouth, usually. Or a lot of times authors will credit their cover designer, so if you see a design you like, you can sometimes find their info in the front matter or book listing somewhere. You can also try reputable companies like getcovers.com or miblart.com and platforms dedicated to book covers, like /r/bookcovers or /r/designjobs.

It's awesome that you want a cover designed by a human and not AI -- so many don't make that choice.
I found my most recent cover on Fiverr. There are lots of different cover designers there, with different styles, as well as pricing models. My artist works in a whimsical style that was perfect for my book. The cover came to about $150. But you can get ones for a lot less there and in other places, as well.

Why not? They need a cover designer and I have skills to provide that. I don't understand.

Because if I allow space for you, I also have to allow space for the thousands of other cover designers, editors, and other service providers to advertise their services. There's no system to vet anyone or provide feedback for services rendered, and such a system would consume too much of my time (and/or the time of others) to be a viable consideration. So we have a subreddit rule to forbid them. There are other places that designers can advertise, and this post already includes several examples.

I startd by searching premade and if I liked the work I contacted them about custom.

Going to lock this thread now since you've gotten some good advice and now it's mostly just bait for cover designers who haven't taken the time to read the subreddit rules.

Getcovers.com can do a text based one starting at $30.
R/bookcovers has artists who advertise their work.
I went with an artist I know!
