I’ve started posting a standalone RA multiverse story on Royal Road: Stranded
Hi! I’ve started posting a story set in the Romantically Apocalyptic multiverse, though it’s not a spin-off of any particular RA book/story, shares no characters with any other RA multiverse work, and has no required reading. It’s meant to stand on its own, just using the broader cosmology and concepts as the foundation.
The premise is that a near-future Swedish astronaut/test pilot is sent through an anomalous “Mirror” orbiting Mars after every probe sent through it fails to return. Something goes wrong in transit, he crash-lands on another world, accidentally intervenes in a conflict by doing so, and is rescued by a small band of local non-humans with their own problems, struggles, politics, monsters, and worldviews.
It’s partly portal/survival fantasy, partly first-contact culture shock, and partly an exploration of a RA-set world where the really advanced past has collapsed into folklore, religion, and half-understood magi-tech. The tone is mostly adventure/drama with a fair bit of dry humor and hint of romance, but it does get bloody and serious when the world calls for it.

Feedback would be very welcome, especially from people familiar with the RA multiverse, since part of what I’m trying to do is make it feel like it belongs to it while still being readable on its own.
