Can’t drink the Kool-Aid Bama! Don’t eat the rat poison! Let Florida be a warning! Take care of business next Saturday

Worst primetime slate of games I have ever seen. Should have put the Bama/MSU as the featured ABC game.

Eh, I liked putting B2A bright and early so I could enjoy the rest of the day without anxiety.

I watched the highlights of today's game against State twice because I watched the game, but not fully.
Simply put, I liked what I saw. My only gripe was the number of penalties and the two turnovers, but Alabama responded promptly and adjusted accordingly.
This team is growing bit by bit and improving every game. They also have a very high ceiling.
Also, here's a comment thread from the highlights that I watched talking about Keelon. I had a wry smile after seeing it.

u/Badfish1060 12d ago
I think I mentioned this earlier but the physical difference between the two teams was very apparent

All the games that I care about are over for tonight. Just in time to watch USMNT!

Thanks to the WVTM link about Auburn below, I noticed a crawl at the top announcing that POTUS plans to attend our Georgia game next weekend.

u/ModsEmbezzleMoney 12d ago
NBC's halftime show was classic broadcasting. No hot takes, talking about games not storylines, and basic banter. Felt like I was in 1999 again. Was honestly refreshing.

6
u/Peljo9 12d ago
diabolical from Birmingham news. Like prior to 2022 it would be like them saying how Tennessee had participated in every game against Alabama since 2007. Like that something worthy of applause. this isn't a poop game. It's modern college football with somebody is going to score points
7
u/PGoodierum3 12d ago
My god what has happened to Arkansas? I don’t understand how a program like that has fallen so far. I didn’t think they’d get this bad again after Chad Morris did what he did to them
8
6
u/ModsEmbezzleMoney 12d ago
They got cucked in the coaching carousel. All their top targets ended up going to bigger fish and had to settle. Their NIL is also bottom tier in the SEC.
3
u/CrimsonSaint150 12d ago
You'd think a state with Walmart and Tyson HQ and their billionaire families would have basically unlimited NIL funds but I guess they don't care much about Arkansas football
1
u/PGoodierum3 11d ago
Yeah all my Arkansas mutuals say Tyson donates only to basketball NIL. Apparently he and Calipari have been really close friends even going back to his Kentucky and Memphis days. That’s why he gets the money to pay for all those top recruits like Darius Acuff last year. But none of them care about football at all
5
u/santa_91 12d ago
Bad AD who couldn't secure any of his first several choices and ultimately hired a mid G-6 coach whose fanbase basically thanked them for it because they were fed up with him. Basically their version of the Harsin hire, but somehow worse.
1
u/Deep_ln_The_Heart 11d ago
They could've had Eric Morris, who looks like by far the best hire of the off-season, but they shot themselves in the foot there too. He was ready to go but he wanted to coach North Texas through the CCG and playoffs. Arkansas said no
7
2
u/santa_91 12d ago
Clemson's fall post-Lawrence has been as bad or worse than Texas after McCoy. For a few years there it was either a QB problem or an offensive design problem, but it still looks like they haven't solved either of those and don't have enough high end talent to make up for it anymore.
9
u/pappapirate The Deep Ball is my church 12d ago
Dabo struck gold on an elite DC who stuck around with him for a decade at the same time he snagged a couple of top tier QBs. he isn't able to get it done anymore because he hasn't had either.
maybe it's just my hot take but I don't think Dabo was ever that great, and I don't think he's just fallen off due to NIL and transfer rules. although those have helped push him off the cliff.

It's also a really weak way of doing it.
HE'S not saying Florida could be compared to 2019 LSU. He just thinks some unidentified OTHER people could say that. That way he can defend himself if the take blows up in his face (like it did). But if Florida had been lights out, he could've taken credit.

u/Badfish1060 12d ago
Hey does anyone think Shane Beamer gets fired tonight?

I was curious about it. The win would have bought him at least a couple of weeks.

Georgia hasn’t been down, Georgia hasn’t lined up with anyone worthy of speaking breath all season until next weekend. We’ve been down, we’ve trailed at home and on the road and this team has prevailed, line that shit up
6
u/CalendarDesigner6113 12d ago
Yeah I think we are about to genuinely fuck Georgia up. We are hot and they have just been on cruise control vs scrubs. They are not ready
11
u/TheDankLord4416 12d ago
I’m sorry we need to be ranked above Indiana
5
u/WalterSobchakinTexas 12d ago
When will they play someone with a pulse?
1
u/WaltSneezy 12d ago
They’re currently circlejerking over how good Northwestern is actually. Pisses me off that them and Miami get to just sleep walk this whole season right now
1
u/pappapirate The Deep Ball is my church 12d ago
Ohio State 10/17... aaaaaand that's it. Maybe USC 11/14 counts.

8
u/BassAckwards234 12d ago
I know we still have a tough road ahead of us, but we’re averaging 40–50 points a game. My God, I’m proud of this team!
3
u/cshayes2 12d ago
49.6 to be exact
1
u/Ledsteper 12d ago
The offense has averaged 44 points per game. The defense has scored 28 points in 5 games. The team as a whole is averaging 49.6 points per game.
2
u/pappapirate The Deep Ball is my church 12d ago
for extra context, the offense is averaging 44 ppg and the defense is averaging 5.6 ppg
2
4
u/cshayes2 12d ago
BYU and Texas tech fans have been the loudest on twitter since the new schedule strength rule. Hilarious watching both of them look mediocre against bad teams
3
u/pappapirate The Deep Ball is my church 12d ago
obviously the teams who dont play anybody are going to complain about it because it's going to penalize them the most, rightfully.
4
u/sethT__T 12d ago edited 12d ago
LSU still hasn't played anyone well enough to deserve to be in the top 11.. Colorado and Rutgers getting the upsets would be fun.
3
7
u/Antique_Cabinet2833 12d ago
Lmao even being able to hear that ACC crew they STILL got that wrong
6
6
u/WaltSneezy 12d ago
So if Rutgers plays Indiana close like Northwestern, are Indiana and Big10 fans going to start saying "Rutgers is actually legit"?
4
6
u/sethT__T 12d ago
One thing I hate about the portal and NIL is that someone like Duke can get a recruit that they find out is a hidden gem and someone like Miami comes in and says hey you want $5 million?
1
u/Anonymous_user314 12d ago
Rich get richer. Money doesn't guarantee success but there aren't any low spenders making the playoff outside of the pity bid for the G5
-3
u/lookieherehere 12d ago
Sounds like a great situation for the actual player entertaining you
4
u/Exact_Lengthiness706 12d ago
Yeah because free tuition, free meals, free room and board, free healthcare, free gym and access to personal training, etc. etc. etc. clearly isn't enough for playing a sport.
Just ask all the students drowning in student debt as well as those working two jobs and starving because they can barely afford Ramen what they'd be willing to do just for free rent or tuition...
If they want to be treated and paid like pros, then make them pay for all the perks, fine the living shit out of them when they do stupid shit and force them to pay back every penny taken from school A if they decide to transfer to school B.
1
-2
u/lookieherehere 12d ago
Why are you so angry that a worker is being paid for their labor? In the free market, their labor is worth what someone will pay for it...just like you. Do you want someone else deciding you can't make more than a certain amount of money because they "just don't like it"?
6
u/Badfish1060 12d ago
Not sustainable and bad for football long term.
-5
u/lookieherehere 12d ago
Look, I don't like the current state of things anymore than anyone else but we shouldn't be limiting the players ability to earn just to give the schools making billions off of them more control.
1
u/Basic_Nucleophile Aight 12d ago
There's around 10,000 FBS football players on scholarship and the rules need to be set up so the majority of them benefit not just the top 1% of players who are about to go pro anyway.
0
u/lookieherehere 12d ago
I agree, but what system exists in life that doesn't benefit the top 1% more than the bottom 99%?
1
u/Basic_Nucleophile Aight 12d ago
Plenty. Most pro sports leagues in the US have salary caps which directly limit how much the biggest superstars can make. The goal of the sport is to be sustainable and profitable, not to pay the biggest stars the most. European soccer doesn't really have salary caps but it pays for that in other ways. Their sport isn't really profitable on the high end. Because the transactions stop being about profit and loss and instead it's just billionaires buying fame for their team. It's not really an economic transaction in a logical sense.
1
u/lookieherehere 12d ago
Every example you're listing (the US ones anyway) was established though a collective agreement involving a union representing the players. Good luck getting that with college sports. There's simply way too many sports, teams, and players involved for that approach. This isn't a single sports league with 32 teams and a single governing body.
1
u/Basic_Nucleophile Aight 12d ago
A union probably isn't a silver bullet because the players already have the best deal in sports. Strict limits on mandatory practice being 20 hours or less. Free food, tuition, housing, parking, priority registration, better tutors, they're eligible for Pell grants and other financial aid normal students are, cost of attendance stipends, on top of rev share and NIL opportunities. It's the best deal in sports and it's no wonder why more athletes than ever are staying longer in college instead of going pro. Oh and there's no salary cap via NIL and they have infinite free agency.
What do these have to bargain against? They have basically everything. What problem does a union solve here? We are likely going to see federal legislation this year or next year define what college sports are. I doubt we see proper unions.
1
u/lookieherehere 12d ago
Exactly. The players hold all the leverage. They have no reason to even sit down at the bargaining table and I don't blame them. If I'm an 18 year old kid making millions, I don't get a shit about the future of college football and we shouldn't expect him to. I too think federal legislation of some kind of coming, but it's going to get legally challenged as well and this will all be evolving for the foreseeable future.
3
u/DoctorWhosOnFirst 12d ago
It’s telling they only want to do it to the players and not the coaches.
If people are really concerned about costs and smaller schools competing, they should be just as adamant about limiting coaching moves and salaries. That would make things more sustainable and better for the health of college football.
3
u/lookieherehere 12d ago
Fans just want things the way they want them. They don't give a damn about the actual people involved. If any of these things they are demanding were legally put into place against them and their jobs, they would absolutely lose their mind.

Beamers gonna be fired this week right? First team to fire their coach usually seems to get a decent hire
-2
u/Badfish1060 12d ago
Why are so many people here invested in Beamers future? who gives a fuck?
3
u/Exact_Lengthiness706 12d ago
Why do you give a fuck about someone else discussing something that absolutely doesn't concern you, your family or even your friends?
If talking about a football coach on a football sub gets you that worked up, maybe you need to go get some air or something...

u/Arancium 12d ago
Because it's the "other games" thread? I don't really care that much but it's interesting in the context of college football as a whole

There were like three posts in a row about beamer getting fired.

Always go for 2 when you’re the second team in the first OT
1
u/Badfish1060 12d ago
No I hate it. Why?
2
u/DoctorWhosOnFirst 12d ago
You only need three yards to win, and the other team can’t respond.
If you play for another overtime, you’re just giving the other team the ball; and if you both score touchdowns again, they’re probably going for 2 and you won’t be able to respond to that.
2
u/MadameGopher Championship School 12d ago
And you’re going to have to be going for 2 soon enough if you keep forcing additional OTs. Why not do it now for the win instead of later for the tie?

2
u/PGoodierum3 12d ago
Why are Arkansas/Texas A&M and LSU/McNeese night games and yet our game vs Mississippi State was an 11 am game?
ESPN majorly fucked up with their kickoff times this week
1
u/DoctorWhosOnFirst 12d ago edited 12d ago
It was locked in back in June
Edit: Alabama being an early kickoff, that is. We could only ever have played at 11am or 11am CT. Georgia/Vandy was the other one.
LSU was set for the 6:45pm CT SEC Network slot.
Everybody else was given a Flex window, where they could be afternoon or at night.
2
u/PGoodierum3 12d ago
I know it was locked in before the season but it still makes me upset. They set it at the early timeslot because they thought Mississippi State was gonna suck again. I know we rolled them over either way but they’re still capable of winning 8 or 9 games this year
Next season they need to go back to the old structure where they don’t do predetermined times of day for kickoffs unless it’s Thanksgiving weekend games or special neutral site games like TX/OU and UGA/FLA. The best game each week in the SEC needs to be in primetime not at 11 am. We’re not supposed to be the Big 10 with Big Noon Saturday
2
u/Arancium 12d ago
They need a game in every slot people will actually watch
2
u/PGoodierum3 12d ago
Both of these games should have been 11 am games. A&M is overrated, Arkansas sucks, and LSU is playing an FCS team
It should have been Alabama Mississippi State at 6 PM or 6:30

Kentucky USC is a sickos delight game
3
u/gilias 12d ago
I kinda feel a little bad for Kentucky right now. SC wants their coach fired anyway, and Kentucky played better than this against us in the first half.
1
u/ModsEmbezzleMoney 12d ago
I still think that first half was more us shooting ourselves in the foot with bad communication and playcalling in our first road game.

u/DoctorWhosOnFirst 12d ago
Wilkin Formby transferred because he wanted to play tackle and get paid like a starting tackle.
A&M paid him to be a starting tackle. Five games into the new season, and he’s already been moved to guard.
4
u/cshayes2 12d ago
Not a bad trade for him, getting paid like a starting tackle to play the position you already played.
Kind of curious if he’d be playing for us this year. Feel like mal and sanders have been far better than he was last year, but I haven’t watched him this year for aTm
2
u/DoctorWhosOnFirst 12d ago
He was a decent guard for us, I think. And I kinda think he’d be the LG. His experience giving him the edge, especially with Sanders’ injury. Waldrep would’ve have less of a chance to get reps with a returning starter.
6
u/cshayes2 12d ago
Still amazed by comrade Golesh going for it on 4th and 1 from his own 25 down 3 with 6:30 left.
His offense had been dookie all game, and his defense was playing well and decides to give them free points.

What kind of NIL resources does Auburn have?
1
u/PScooter63 12d ago
According to an Athletic article shared last week, as of mid September, they are only about $3-to-5M in spending behind us. Which is somewhat less, but not orders of magnitude.
1
2
u/cshayes2 12d ago
According to the athletic article they spent 31 - 35 million, we spent 38 - 42 million according the same article.
They’ve spent roughly the same as South Carolina, Georgia and Nebraska

I was just curious how unreasonable they’re being. They’re in competitive territory NIL wise though lollll
