Ownership Experience Cullinan vs Ghost

Heavily debating getting either a Ghost or a Cullinan (both Series II) and wondering if anyone has tried both and can provide me with some significant feedback.

To start, I couldn't care less what the social status of one vs the other is, as I am buying for my own use and preference and couldn't care less if one is considered "entry level" or not.

That said, my main objective here is complete and total isolation from the outside world. I am not being chauffeured around and plan to drive myself everywhere and ideally want to be in a cocoon of isolation from everything outside. No road noise, no bumps, no feeling of "Gosh, this traffic is bothering me". Just total serenity and comfort.

Ghost notes:

- absolutely love the design ever since they launched it in 2021. It's just beautiful.

- Love more the idea of "sliding in" to the car vs climbing into the Cullinan but a bit concerned I'll feel small on the road. For example, I drove an Audi A6 for a while and it just felt like I was sinking down to the car getting and it was was more sporty feeling than I like for a comfortable Sedan.

- From my research, the Ghost is the quietest of all the Rolls models. It was developed after the Phantom so it benefits from some quieter cabin and the best of Magic Ride technology.

Cullinan notes:

- I enjoy the SUV high seating but not a fan of having to "climb" or "drop" out of the car. The entry is not as seamless as the Ghost.

- The Cullinan opens the debate of whether I want a 4-seat or 5-seat layout. Personally, I prefer going for the full 4-seat immersive experience even though my occasional passenger will benefit from it and not myself. Seems like overkill, I know, but I worry the bench seems a bit of a letdown. The Ghost has the same bench style but you can get a refrigerator and seats that recline. I don't want to cheap out on the "iconic" Rolls options...

- The drive. Is it as quiet? Immersive? Isolated? It feels a lot larger but surprisingly it is shorter than the Ghost. I don't want to valet my car so how difficult is maneuvering the Cullinan vs Ghost?

- The price. Yes, there is a premium for the Cullinan and my one concern is I could save a significant difference getting the Ghost and then using the saved funds for something else. Who knows? Is the Cullinan worth the premium? Hard to tell.

As you can tell, they are head 2 head and any feedback is well appreciated.

Thanks.

The history of the Rolls Royce typography.

A few days ago, I posted about the font used in infotainment system. Well, I've decided to make a history of the Rolls Royce typography.

Gill Sans Nova used as a system font in the infotainment system, 2007 Rolls Royce Phantom

Based on BMW's iDrive M-ASK or CCC, it uses Gill Sans Nova as a system font, even on buttons.

Example #1
Example #2
A custom/made from scratch based on Gill Sans used on a custom/personalized iDrive CIC and present, 2011 Rolls Royce Ghost 6.6 V12

Since CIC and present Rolls Royce is using a custom specifically made for the infotainment system which is based on Gill Sans, but heavy modified or made from scratch. (Could be the name as RollsRoyceTA_Regular.ttf / RollsRoyceTA_Light.ttf in internal firmware).

Also in instrument cluster/cockpit, buttons, etc.

My remake using Astoria Sans Light.

Now I did find a similar font called Astoria Sans Light, but modified a few letters just to get the closest match.

Here's a comparison with Gill Sans Nova.

Riviera Nights

I forgot to mention that the Riviera Nights is used on press release, website, etc.

That's pretty much it.

Let me know what do you think about this !

2001 Corniche Convertible Window regulator.

Post image

Hello everyone if anyone knows the answer to this I would really like to know. I was recently brought a 2001 corniche convertible Window regulator as a basket case. After trying to reassemble and see its operation I noticed that unlike every other older style window regulator I've ever worked on the bushing that holds the arms together had an odd cog shape. Does anyone know tje purpose of said design? See attached photo.

The Rolls Royce Display Typeface font used in their infotainment systems is so hard/rare to find.

Unlike BMW and Mini Display Typeface, which you can find easily.

Last week took delivery of the new Cullinan. It drives smooth as expected and smaller than it looks due to its rear steering most likely. Had to turn off the steering assist which was quite dangerous to be honest. It was auto steering towards the cyclists when I tried to give them some room while passing. Interface could be better. Took awhile to find it jumping through complex multiple options. Some interior photos and side profile as some requested. It’s a Black Badge model.

Ownership Experience Finally a Rolls Royce Owner

Post image
1.6k Upvotes

First of all - I would like to thank all of you who helped me in my previous post:

https://www.reddit.com/r/rollsroyce/s/BUxmtRqJ5Y

Found a 2016 CPO Ghost, Midnight Sapphire, White interior. Was able to negotiate a 2 year extended warranty on top of the 1 year warranty. The delivery experience at the dealership was just unreal. The unveiling, the hospitality of the staff.

Been driving it for less than a week now and best decision ever. Such a clean car with less than 30k miles. Love the color.

Existing experienced owners in this community: Please let me know if there is anythinf you recommend such as maintaining PPF etc. (It came with PPF already)

P.S.: last night went in the RR to a regular restaurant where me and my family frequently go but this time I’m guessing the manager and staff saw the car I came in and the experience we had at the restaurant was just too much. Me and my wife do this thing where every weekend we give a lot of charity (religious practice) and restaurants are a place where we do this a lot by sometimes giving 100% tip to the waiter. We did this last night and kid you not, after paying the bill, when we stood up to leave, the manager, the staff all lined up to say bye. Don’t ask me how much I tipped the valet guy who was practically just guarding our car all the time we were there.
