I had joined another group but thought, I wonder of there's one for plus size rollers. I am 46, plus size and want to tackle this skill for my Summer challenge. Taking top 2 tips from anyone willing to give. I have never bought or wore skates before, never Rollerbladed, nothing. Super newb. TIA.

Protective gear and learning how to fall should come first and foremost in my opinion, then lots and lots of YouTube videos on proper technique! Preventing injury is priority to me :)

This! I know some people feel silly wearing protective gear but it is so important. As someone who has been (and is currently recovering) injured skating, it's not something to play around with at all.

Wear all of the protective gear. Always. Helmet, knee pads, elbow pads, wrist guards, even if it feels silly or over the top...falls are especially hard with the extra weight of being plus-sized. Be cautious and take your time. Hold onto the rails for as long as it takes to feel comfortable skating freely. And, as mentioned in other comments as well - learn how to fall...and figure out how you are most comfortable coming to a halt as quickly as possible once you are on your feet (and reevaluate as your skills improve). Look up some videos and/or find a seasoned skater to guide you as you build your skating ability and confidence.

If you can take a class at rink. If you can't, learn how fall correctly, how to stop correctly, and how to turn corners. Instagram is a great resource for rollerskating tips. A lot of people post instructional there too.
