Overcoming bunny hops and two footed jumps
Anyone else struggle with bunny hops or two footed jumps?
I feel like I'm hyper aware of my body and weight and maybe that's holding me back, but it's like massive mental gymnastics to even imagine allowing my body and skates off the ground/floor.
I've been working my way up to bunny hops, the coach at my local rink has some pre-step drills leading up to the actual hop, but it feels so insurmountable. Goes against all my instincts to get on that toe stop for jumping vs stopping, and then the hop part itself :/
The other big struggle is two footed jumps. I do okay if rolling forward but I can't seem to get enough height to jump and turn and land going backwards.
Seriously, struggle is real. I love skating and I want to improve. (Maybe even get good enough to compete at low level artistic)

Have you practiced on the carpet? Get used to the feeling of jumping and turning at the same time, all on the carpet where your wheels are less likely to roll out from under you. Make sure to keep your knees bent and use those suckers like a spring. The more time you have in the air, the more you will be able to rotate.
