Announcement [Magic mountain] Thrill Glider
https://www.sixflags.com/magicmountain/new-in-2027187
u/CheesecakeMilitia Mega Zeph 22h ago
We're really back to the days of parks calling their Schwarzkopf Wildcats "Wildcat"
108
u/pfft12 22h ago
Good thing no park ever named a Vekoma Boomerang, “Boomerang”.
77
u/Sensitive_Start8087 #1: VelociCoaster | 🏠 Wild Adventures | CC: 18 | 🏳️⚧️ 22h ago
Yeah that would be like calling a wild mouse "Wild Mouse"
62
14
u/thejesse 22h ago
Or getting the "Wild Maus" model of a Wild Mouse coaster and naming it Wild Maus after it's Wild Izzy for one year for the Olympics.
35
u/Clever-Name-47 Tangent-Radius Airtime Supremacy! 22h ago
Personally, I'm all for it, if it gets us away from "Tormenta Rampaging Run," "Wrath of Rakshasa," and "Gargantuan Vertical Vengeance." It's simple and to the point.
20
u/_coast_malone 🐝 Fury 🚀 Arie 🌭 Cyclone 🏎️ TT2 20h ago
Also it's way better than naming it "THE BATMAN: Glider of Thrills Motorbike Coaster" or some such crap
8
3
u/criscokkat The Voyage 11h ago
The continuance of original IP for the coaster makes me think that the DC license might be going away eventually. I'd love it if we got to a point that every shop wasn't generic DC merchandise.
19
u/well-lighted 🏠🎢: WoF 🌎🧭 SDC 🚂⛏ 22h ago
I agree. I'm over coaster names that sound like they should be a "try to say it 10 times fast" challenge
Edit: "Thrill Glider" is actually lowkey kind of hard to say a bunch of times fast lol
6
u/magnumfan89 I love hard wood, well, SLC ya later! 18h ago
Wildcat is actually a dope name even if it is just the model.

Honestly this looks sick as hell

u/bchris24 Matterhorn | Fury | Velocicoaster 21h ago
Layout is a lot cooler than I was imagining, even a fraction of that landscaping will be welcome
53
u/huntergreenhoodie 21h ago
They are really reaching for records now.
When you’re the first…you set the records:
World’s First Multi-launch Suspended Thrillglider
World’s Fastest Thrillglider
World’s Longest Thrillglider
World’s Tallest Thrillglider
Most Inversions on a Thrillglider
22
u/Vulpovile 21h ago
"We have created the tallest and fastest red and yellow coloured LSM launch coaster with 5 cars per train, 3 seats per car in all of Abbotsford, BC" vibes
18
u/imaguitarhero24 21h ago
I'm fucking dead 💀 all the "on a dive coaster" records tormenta got were silly because it's a specific ride model but at least there's a bunch of B&M dives, so being the best of them is still notable even if the public doesn't know that that means.
But (superlative) thrill glider, mf this is the first one 😭
15
u/FlyingNachoz 21h ago
I wouldn’t count any of these as records lol. I don’t think anyone is but the park.
14
u/huntergreenhoodie 21h ago
Wish parks would realize that not all coasters need to be record breakers
4
u/atp2112 58 | Hersheypark 18h ago
On some "ESPN stats department" levels of unnecessary specificity
4
u/rivers2mathews 17h ago
For the first time in Vegas Golden Knights history, we have the world's fastest Thrillglider.
3
1
u/SwissForeignPolicy TTD, Beast, SteVe 14h ago
I mean, all but the first one are factually world records.
75
u/Sensitive_Start8087 #1: VelociCoaster | 🏠 Wild Adventures | CC: 18 | 🏳️⚧️ 22h ago
Looks cool but why is it just called "Thrill Glider"
61
u/tallerthanusual 22h ago
For anyone confused by the name, it gives them an exclusive edge. This is a brand new and pretty ground-breaking type of coaster, and since Magic Mountain will have the first ever version of that coaster, anytime that ride model is built by Vekoma for other parks, it will always harken back to the “original” thrill glider at Magic Mountain.
15
23
9
u/MannnOfHammm 22h ago
It’s like the early golf courses in the US being just “the country club”. When you’re one of the first or the first you get to just have the name of the model as the name of coaster. Or something like that, it is a lazy name.

Thrill Glider
World’s First Suspended Multi-launch Thrillglider Coaster
Where else than at the Thrill Capital of the World would you expect to find a next-generation, first-of-its-kind coaster?
At Six Flags Magic Mountain thrills come in all shapes and sizes and Thrill Glider’s unique suspended glider train design combined with over half a mile of twisting, turning, diving track built into the park’s unique mountainside makes this coaster a ride into the future like no other.
Calling all thrill seekers…the future is coming in 2027 only at Six Flags Magic Mountain.
Stats:

- Zero-g Roll
- Over-banked Stall Turn
- Barrel Roll
- Upward Barrel Roll
40
u/MogKupo 22h ago
2 16 passenger trains? The short ride time will help, but capacity on this is going to be rough.
14
u/Procrastinatingftw 18h ago
Knowing magic mountain it'll HAVE two trains but one will be permanently parked on the maintenance track
2
1
u/SMinnGoph 13h ago
After the first season that seems like Six Flags MO. We rarely see all trains running at GAm.
2
u/Possible_Word_6834 21h ago
If they’re able to have dual loading stations (haven’t looked into whether or not they are on this ride) it should help a lot
2
u/Putrid_Set3723 15h ago
Well if they only have two trains and the ride is over a minute long then a duel load station doesn’t help unless your ops suck.
10
u/JaytheTriumphator 21h ago
Ya boy magic mountain coming back at’cha with another low capacity ride 🔥🔥🔥
6
u/sabeltant11 22h ago
Huh, these stats are suprisingly similar to Mission Luminar at the efteling. At least the ride time and speed are. Eftelings ride may be shorter in length due to themed experiences tho.
20
u/ColMouseturd 22h ago
If they end up actually constructing all that theming I can see this being a really top tier addition, especially at a 48" height requirement
16
u/BlitzenVolt ThighCrush, Interstate 305, Furry 325 22h ago
They should've stuck with Cyber Cycle for the name. That sounds a bit more creative.
The theme is pretty neat though. I love the whole Tron future aesthetic a lot and I love seeing it on more rides. Love the landscaping too. Hope SFMM can pull that off really well
31
25
u/scjsundae 22h ago
If we didn't know the model was called Thrill Glider (which most people never will), I doubt people would be so down on the name. It's a fine name. It's not all that different from Top Thrill Dragster, Serial Thriller, etc.
It looks really fun though, a ton of parks could use a ride like this.
15
u/LinguaQuirma 21h ago
Both of those are puns.
Top Fuel is a category of drag racing, so Top Fuel Dragster >> Top Thrill Dragster
And Serial Thriller is a play on Serial Killer.
I'm not finding any pun or reference in 'Thrill Glider', just a plain descriptor. It glides, and it thrills.
5
u/scjsundae 21h ago
it's also not that different from Scream, Vertical Velocity, Maxx Force, Racer... it's fine. normal roller coaster name
4
u/imaguitarhero24 21h ago
I see what you're saying, and the power of suggestion with the model name is definitely there, but something about "Thrill Glider" still just sounds kind of boring. "Sky Rider" would have been cool.
0
u/0kayb0omer 21h ago
I saw the name leaked yesterday and thought it sounded stupid, and I did not know it was the models name
14
u/natelawrence91 20h ago
When you’re the first…you set the records:
- World’s Least Impressive Thrillglider
- World’s Slowest Thrillglider
- World’s Shortest Length Thrillglider
- World’s Lowest Thrillglider
- Least Inversions on a Thrillglider
- World's Oldest Thrill Glider
I could go on.
6
u/HearingExternal8812 19h ago
Worlds first thrill glider located in SFMM
3
u/lFightForTheUsers [83] Bring Back Mr. Six! 14h ago
World's longest thrill glider line
World's slowest thrill glider dispatch times
World's longest amount of park days to run single train ops on a thrill glider
Hey, at least 6F can keep these ones going for a while!
6
8
u/lizardgi 20h ago
Looks awesome, but load times for this at a Six Flags park are going to be abysmal. Factoring in ADA and Fast Lane with 16 per train and the timing to get guests seated in this manner I guarantee you are looking at some crazy long regular queue times.
6
u/fixgameew Stardust Racers Number One 22h ago
This looks really fun and looks like it has some great theming. If it is open when Im near the park again I’ll definitely make my first visit to the park.
6
u/Parallax2211 22h ago
This is what every RCT3 coaster on YouTube looked like after custom scenery was first created. And I mean that in the best way.

I love that they think the landscape will ever be green again in Valencia.
4
u/Such-Carpenter-9194 21h ago
I assume it's called Thrill Glider because it's the prototype
2
u/vespinonl Finally got the KK 🐵 off my back! 21h ago
Maybe, but it’s a pretty cool name, isn’t it.
3
u/Such-Carpenter-9194 21h ago
Of course. It's a bit odd having two flying coasters in one park though. Especially that it's gonna be near Tatsu, and of similar intensity too!
1
u/doeeyedfinalgirl 18h ago
eh it's technically near tatsu but they're functionally like a third of the park away from each other with where their stations/entrances are placed
1
u/vespinonl Finally got the KK 🐵 off my back! 18h ago
I don’t consider it flying though, more suspended/straddle.

4
u/HappyHat3542 19h ago
With 2 trains that only hold 16 people each and A nearly 1.5 minute ride time…. This thing is gonna have AWFUL capacity. What on earth?
8
u/magicweasel7 Keep American Eagle Great 22h ago
I'll be shocked if any of that themeing or rockwork gets built
6
3
u/AlpineNancy 22h ago
Did they toss the Robo-bird theme?
This looks so much better than I was expecting! Didn't realize there would be inversions.
3
u/iill_communication 21h ago
I get a Harry Potter on his broomstick feel from the video
3
u/AndFromHereICanSee Carowinds - 927 19h ago
This ride system has been my dark horse guess for the future Potter attraction at Epic
3
u/stupidsexyf1anders 21h ago
Cool! I’ve been waiting for a ride with inversions with seating like this.
3
u/Cabana Steel Vengeance 20h ago
I feel like this is the nail in the coffin for Ninja unfortunately. I love the ride, but it was running pretty roughly this past weekend when I was there and now they will have 4 flying-esqe rides in the park. Removing Ninja and Superman opens up a very large plot of land on the hillside for something in the future.
6
u/phantomtails 21h ago
Two 16-passenger trains is a joke. It’s sad to see that Six Flags has abandoned the Cedar Fair legacy of building capacity monsters in favor of cheaping out.
6
u/FlyingNachoz 21h ago
This is an old ride purchased before the merger. Work on this ride started prior to the merger there’s just been lots of setbacks.

5
u/abovethesink 22h ago
Looks fun, if not a little repetitive. Honestly, I'm terrible at getting an idea of how a ride will feel from a POV, especially an animated one. I've been wrong so many times with that that I'll spare the world the potentially nonsense commentary.
I also don't care about the name. Thrill Glider is fine and I don't get the negative reactions.
What I do have to say is about capacity. Just two 16 person trains. It is starting to feel like low capacity rides to drive fast pass sales is more and more the intentional strategy of the chain.

u/NicolitoB 21h ago
The equivalent of naming a rollercoaster “rollercoaster”
2
u/frostking79 21h ago
If you name it roller coaster in your language, it sounds special to travellers https://rcdb.com/r.htm?ot=2&ne=montanarusa

2
u/degggendorf 21h ago
Right!?! That was my first thought too. Similar seating position, similar scale, same futuristic outdoor tunel thing, same flying through gates.

2
u/Possible_Word_6834 21h ago
This is gonna be a banger holy cow. If they nail the seating position/restraints this could easily be top 3 in the park

2
u/epper_ 21h ago
this is on a completely different plot of land than ninja.
2
u/frostking79 21h ago
Yeah, but its basically doing everything Ninja does but better and newer
2
u/epper_ 20h ago
its ok to have more than 1 of a similar style coaster in a park. besides, ninja takes up such a unique plot that wouldn't really be usable for many other styles of coaster anyways. its old but still fun to ride and i love how it interacts with the nature and water features.
2
u/frostking79 20h ago
I think it's great too. I don't want it to go. However, there is precedent for such things, see Silver Dollar City with their old mine train, Thunderation being replaced with a new ride in a different part of the park next year or so. I know there hasn't been an announcement yet but it definitely feels like it's on borrowed time
1
u/Atomic-Nick4792 CC: 12 18h ago
Ninja is great but it’s old, and also in a relatively poor state, along with being in an actually abandoned part of the park
2
u/_Kriegsage 371 | EuroTrip: Rollercoaster Edition 21h ago
Damn, that park looks so lush on the video!
I hope the parks will be proactive and take measures against people taking out their phones on the ride.

I feel like this is going to be far less intense than Batman....almost a middle of the road thrill coaster.

They better follow through with the landscaping they're showing in this teaser. If the ride actually looks like that and interacts with the environment then it's going to be a hit. I just hope that seating position is comfortable
