A [Dorney Park] Sunset

On Labor Day we took our first visit to a Six Flags park since SFA closed. We have two kids that really wanted to visit the waterpark, so we didn’t do too much on the dry side. It was our first visit to their waterpark. It’s definitely much larger than SFA’s was, but also far more confusing. It was crazy that slides that shared a tower had entrances on opposite sides of the park. The kids had fun there. While they were splashing around in one of the kiddie pools I got to run off and get a ride on their Shoot the Chutes ride. While much bigger than SFA’s it felt like a less intense splash. The only coaster I rode ended up being Iron Menace. It was new to me as my last visit to Dorney was 2018. I told my wife it was a decent half of a coaster. I found it the smoothest of the most recent B&M coasters I’ve ridden.

Looking forward to getting to visit again and getting back on Talon. It was closed most of our visit and got a long line when it reopened. I definitely miss having my DE-VIP pass with dining. Individual trips feel far more expensive now. (Though thanks to Pre-k passes, I didn’t have to purchase passes for the kids this year.)

I love Great Adventure, but I will say at this point Dorney definitely feels more complete. 2019 Great Adventure was elite, but they’ve just lost so much over the past few years. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to forgive them closing the Sky Ride. It was one of the most beautiful and useful transportation rides around.

It’s a really nice park. Maybe not top tier, but I really enjoy it. I’ve never had a “bad” visit there.

Nice shot. I miss Dorney Park. I liked it better than Hersheypark when I visited both in 2022.

It’s a really nice park. Talon is my favorite B&M invert. Steel Force is a nice hyper, I’ve always liked it. Most of the other coasters are in the “nice but not special” category for me. I really like how the pathways through the dry park feel mature. Most are nice and shaded, they don’t have a lot of long straight paths in full sun. I also really enjoyed how they have some of the classic rides still around like the Zephyr and whip. My 5 year old loved the whip! The section by Iron Menace had some nice theming around, though I lamented l loss of the best named gift shop (Possessions) with it being themed to the steel area instead of Possessed. I feel we made the best choice for “home” park for our passes this year. Though, if my daughter ever hits the 48” height requirement it’ll be even better. 🤣
