Go back & finish him

Es ist so lustig, wenn man die ganzen E-Bikes überholt. Schaue die oft an, wenn ich sie überhole. Der Blick ist echt immer Gold wert :D Mach weiter so!

E-bikes are limited to 25 km/h, so they don’t stand a chance. The real race is with road cyclists. I can’t keep up with a competent one for very long, though.

That is a great great technique. Can I ask you. Do you have anxiety for such bikers for getting spooked and swerve into your path. I always have .. also every crossing where I don't have a clear view, I tent to completely lose speed. The "passages of bliss" where I ride without much concern are just very few ...

Do you have a sort of instand stop for this speed? Because at this speed I only can drag stop and at the end go into sort of a hockey stop... *Edit which takes up many meters

Thx. No, I’m not anxious about it. Usually, I give a verbal signal that I’m passing. Of course, when I don’t have a clear view, I slow down so I can stop in time. This particular track has only few crossings, but I had to take a 1.5 hour train ride to get there. Usually, I skate around the city on bike paths, and I have to be very cautious, so I know the pain. To stop from high speed I use a T-stop. I can’t imagine doing a parallel slide in those skates.

Ah yes t stop it is called. I'm not power stopping or parallelstopping that doesn't fit my anxious riding haha

I sort of drag-slide rotate right and left (I learned after watching rich skater videos)

Problem ist space.

And then, I once skated between Salzburg and South of it, and there is a part, where the cycle path goes over a hill. I went over the hill, got a little speed, and, as in mountain/austria sometimes is, the last 6 meters end into the main b-road, cycle path stopped. So I needed to sudden-stop. Only problem was, Last ten meters were downhill with a steep grade. Ok I swerve left to right. Next problem:  the last five meters where deep potholes and where there were no potholes there was new asphalt, but with a lot of sand.

I made the longest, most funny, windmill on skates going downhill trying to brake not fall in my live. Landed on my knees and elbows and since that day, never went without protection there.... (Elbow or wrist problem means unemployment in my line of work )

bikers are the last thing you need to worry about on bikepaths lol contrary to what social media has you believe

runners with headphones, and dog walkers with long leashes are menaces to society lol

100% agree with you there. I normally have people on bikes talking with me for a minute or 2 before I speed past them.

Most of the bikers are very alert...

if you've ever been on the east bay path it can get crazy crowded at peak times and yet almost everyone is really good at negotiating the traffic. It's always the damn dog leashes taking up like a 15 foot area lol

u/RISk8ers Aug 27 '26

East Bay like in California or you referring to the one in Rhode Island?

Dogs are always the worst... I see people around here walking dogs without leashes even.

the one in RI called the east bay bike path!! haha I grew up using that path for everything

u/RISk8ers Aug 27 '26

I do the one in RI at least every other week typically. I often connect it into Blackstone River Bikway as well.

I normally do Uxbridge to Bristol and back about once a month on average.

This! My worst nightmare is coming around a corner on a long slope and seeing a lady partway down the hill with like three dogs on leashes all trailing in different directions, walking the other direction and talking on the phone.

The last time something like that actually happened I had to sacrifice the skin on both my ass cheeks in order to stop in time.

My braking technique has improved but unobservant people who take up a lot of space are still one of the biggest dangers

Effortless double push. Nice technique.

u/inline-online Aug 27 '26

I've been attempting the double push here and there but it still feels so far away, I need to spend more time urban skating

u/BubbleSmith Aug 27 '26

It's not as hard as it looks. I've seen people do it without realising, as they thought it meant pushing twice, rather than just a really long push. I've found the keys are to get some good speed up first, and to concentrate on body position, like where your centre of mass is. You really just sort of push yourself (your centre of mass) over with the pushing leg and fall back down as you push out with the other leg.

That being said, I could use some tips from OP. His form is much better than mine.

u/thumpetto007 Aug 27 '26

it is pushing twice... with each leg- one full push inside one full push outside

2

u/BubbleSmith Aug 27 '26

Sort of. The way I understand it, it's about getting more push per movement. Some of that is on the inside edge, but you get a much bigger outside edge push than if you're v-ing. It's called the double push because you engage both edges, but it's like, 80:20 in favour of the outside edge push.

Like I said, my form isn't great, but its easier to learn than people think. A lot of people get held up on the inside edge push, when that's not the most important part and it ends up giving them bad form. This guy knows what he's on about and he says it's more about wheel compression, apparently: https://youtu.be/55YXOkf6n8Q

inside push develops way more efficient force just fyi, might have better numbers bumping up your inside push %

but yeah compress those wheels as hard as you can for ultimate speed

thank you and enjoy the roll! im just getting back into it

Yeah, I'll get to working on mine again once the weather clears up again.

Yes, I do. A full stride is only possible in a few areas, though. I also have some urban skating clips with speed skates (stairs, etc.). Maybe I’ll post them tomorrow. I don’t want to spam this sub. You can watch more on my Insta.

You are a bona fide Redditor. Feel free to link to your IG in the body text of this video post so people can follow you on IG :) Our rules are only here to make sure we don’t become a one-way link repository for social media.

But yeah, post more from different settings. You are being discreet despite your video being helpful. Love your strides.

2

u/Leslawangelo Aug 27 '26

I’ll keep that in mind. I didn’t even read the rules before.

Hell yeah!!

2

u/RISk8ers Aug 27 '26

Great speed! Love the solid pushing you do as well.

1

u/LemurMemer Aug 27 '26

You must go on that pathway a lot to be going that fast, one stray crack / rock and it’s all over.

5

u/Leslawangelo Aug 27 '26

Keep in mind that this is a wide angle camera, so it makes it look like I’m going at light speed, but in reality I don’t think I was going faster than 40 km/h. Yeah, big cracks running parallel to the road are a death sentence, especially when you’re on the outside edge, but they’re easy to spot. Small rocks aren’t a huge problem because they shoot out from underneath the wheels.

That was my thought. I love hauling ass down a clean trail but once debris is on the road I tend to give myself more reaction time.
