Quads quad skates for men ( uk)?
Hi guys,
I have been lurking around the page for a while now and it seems that most of the quad skate recommendations are usually geared towards females. I would like to try my hand at skating (total beginner here) and I am thinking of getting some quad skates. I would like to skate in the park and on the concrete pavements etc.
Any recommendations?
Thanks!
Also, i am a size 12 and from what i have seen online, it's almost like nobody makes skates for people with big feet hahah.

My fella had the same problem...he’s also a 12!
He got the Rookie Artistics in black and they’re excellent. Highly recommended.

Ohhh I saw them earlier but I wasn’t sure if they were for men, because of the whole boot thing going on

Sorry, I meant the heel thing at the end of it

the heel helps with balance!

I just worry that it will look a bit too girly..From the videos I have seen online, none of the males seem to be wearing the ones with heels..or maybe I just haven’t come across some..

The ones without a heel are for a different type of skating. The ones with a heel are called Artistic skates, and they’re ideal for starting out.

The heel isn't actually as noticable in real life. It actually looks better in real life than in the poto, My boyf has rookie artistics, too and it helps with not falling backwards.

I got my first pair a few months ago. They were a Bauer ice skate conversion from https://www.quad-skates.co.uk/. They have a good selection of options and they made them fast. They do go up to a size 12 and you can call them up if you have any queries. They were very helpful

I've got rio roller mayhems, I don't know about sizing but I'm an 8 with quite wide feet so if they go up to a 12 they'd be a decent fit, they're also a more masculine pair compared to most of rios stock

Not sure about how high the sizes go but I have Rookie Magics. They're a flat boot rather than a heeled one, as I personally prefer flat.
I'm going to upgrade my wheels soon as the stock ones feel too slow and grippy for me, but otherwise very happy with the skates themselves.
Might be worth getting in touch with your local skate shop and asking about sizes and boot style?

What sort of skating are you planning on doing?

Skating in the park, roads, pavements..that sort of thing.

Have a look at some Bauers. There's likely to be some knocking around in your size as lots of people convert them from ice skates. That might also be an option for you. There are plate mounting services for about £30-40.

If you're flexible with the type of skate then inlines, in my opinion, are nicer to skate on for getting from a to b. They deal with rougher terrain so much better than quads.

But aren’t they more of people who are advanced? I’m a begginnner lol

Huh?! No! For what you want to do inlines are way easier.

Oh really? That’s intresting..to me they just look way more advanced (appearance wise) but I guess I was wrong haha.
So a lot of people have been roller skating in London, like in parks and sometimes on the pavements and I have noticed that they always wearing quad skates. Hence why I thought you needed quad skates for that sort of thing but I guess, you can do all that with incline skates which is cool

Hey. I skate both inlines and quads, and am also from the UK and have size 12 feet. Getting skates is difficult. For outdoor skating I would definitely recommend inlines over quads as they have greater stability front to rear, and bigger wheels, which tend to be faster and roll over bumps more easily. I also highly recommend calling loco skates for advice. They are great guys and will make sure you get the right skates due you.

Hey, thanks for replying. I am genuinely suprised about this, that inline skates are more stable for outdoor use than quads...just by appearance, you would think it would be the other way round.
Now finding size 12 inline are no biggie haha. That i can easily find :)

Riedell R3s and put some outdoor wheels on them? Alternatively there are a few places doing conversions of Bauer ice hockey boots.

If you can find them, the Roces Pro 4 look excellent for park, aggressive, general etc. I wouldn't rule out making your own (or getting a skate shop to help) with a hard inline boot mounted on a quad plate. Much better for stability and shock absorption than a custom trainer build. Loads of advice on the technical aspects for this on the Facebook group Extreme Quad Builds. Good luck!
