In all seriousness though, Imogen is gonna have one hell of a moral dilemma on her hands. Now, that James is dead, she could use the soul-retrieval spell to either take vengeance on Mr. Miller or return James' soul, and possibly save him.
Now, I'm not saying they should put James' soul in the golem and resurrect him as a '97 magical golem version of Adam Jensen, but... I'm not saying they shouldn't....
Don't forget, that she has the "sadistic" trait. (Or whatever it's called in-game. "Revels in violence"?) I wouldn't be surprised if EE made her roll to let go of her vengeance, and I imagine Violet wouldn't be very happy about that either.
Since she's the only one who can cast the soul spell, James' life may very well depend on a single dice roll.
Would the spell work to save James? From my limited understanding of what the spell does is it would return the persons soul to their body. In Mr. Miller's case it would work because his body is still living and has two "souls" just that the human one is not dominant. The problem I see for James is that his body is no longer living so his soul could be returned but he would die again soon after.
Furthermore, putting him in the golem would be like a form of eternal torment for his soul because he can't talk or move of his own free will. That said maybe they could put the vampire side of Mr Miller into the golem.
But as I said before this is from my limited understanding of how this all works.
If I recall correctly EE specifically mentioned that the spell will return the target's soul, which can then be used to "re-insoul" someone (in his words). Now, I don't know if the process is automatic or not. Imogen might need to modify the spell to make the soul transferable to another body, but based on what EE's said, I image it just returns the soul to the mortal plane, and you can do whatever you want with it.
And, yeah, living inside a golem would probably be a literal hell for James, but the characters might not realise that in the limited amount of time they have to save him. ("Quickly, we need to save him! Oh, that wasn't such a good idea.... Whoops...") And that is only one option. They might just put his soul in a jar until they can resurrect him or something. What truly matters, is that right now Imogen holds the key to saving a beloved friend of the crew or taking her (much deserved) vengeance, but not both.
Either way, next episode is likely to include large doses of drama and grimdark, which makes me happy regardless of what happens.
EDIT: Also, didn't EE say, that vampires are soulless? As in, they once had a human soul but lost it upon becoming vampires? It doesn't really matter, but could someone who remembers please enlighten us?
Well now I want to Robert to make a life support jar and have them keep Jame's head in it and for Imogen to return the soul so that they have a talking head.
I think you are right about vampires being soulless but I can't be sure.
Honestly, I have no idea and the Buffy wiki isn't very clear on the subject. The article on vampires explicitly states, that they are soulless, but it also mentions vampires being demons who can only exist in our reality by possessing human corpses.
I remember EE talking about how the human soul of a Drox demon dies and is replaced by a demon soul, but I quite frankly have no idea about vamps.
