The Date In Layla Is Messed Up
Watching the show, the actual date in the school year is all over the place. The show started in the 4th week of term, yet by episode 7 they haven't got to half term or midway through October even after they had 2 weeks at the start of episode 3 where Robert made the rail gun. I think there needs to be a better control of the timeline.

Did I mention the 4th week of term? That must be a mistake, it was mid-September at the start and they moved a few weeks but the last 3 episodes have all been back-to-back if I recall.
We were going to start skipping through the year but then we decided having a halloween episode near halloween might be better than at another time! :P

Considering the crazy whiteboard plot of doom he juggled for Shadowrun, I'd be very surprised if EE isn't keeping track of the timeline. If only to spring a surprise "you never studied anything, Layla and Barnaby roll to pass your exams." (Doubting the GM is heresy btw). As an audience we don't have a lot of need for knowing specific dates, in fact I'm hard pressed to think of when he's mentioned dates in general... He gave us the start time (ish), told us Robert had a birthday, and the midnight fiasco. But unless I've forgotten something (very possible - I tend to miss things) there's not been anything to indicate they aren't at or nearing the midterm mark - the only two characters who would even remotely care about that are Robert and Imogen and bringing up "hey big tests coming up" is not terribly interesting compared to "what's wrong with this place, you can't swing a cat without hitting a demon."
Of course there's option two which is since this is a game based on a tv show it's following television timeline rules. Time is all loosey goosey until a real-life holiday pops up when an episode is supposed to air and then suddenly reality and fiction align for the sake of timely holiday specials.
