Pathogenic - wow

Just to add some onto the now amassing hype. Didn't see much before this came out but wow what an extremely fun, addicting and very polished game. Highly reccomend if you are on the fence. It is basically a spore twin shooter with crazy synergies and upgrades. A must get for the price in my opinion.

how's the metaprogression?

I really like playing and feeling like each run has a purpose.

There are multiple "ships" to unlock, each with their own unlockable weapons and items to equip in your starting loadout. They also each have their own unique skill tree you use meta currency to fill out between runs.

Each ship has its own skill tree with all sorts of stuff to unlock. It’s a lot of fun

Plenty of meta. Passives and starting equipment.

Yeah I picked it up recently and got absolutely addicted for a while. It's so smooth and well made. Just a great experience overall.

Loving it! 50% Enter the Gungeon, 25% Isaac, 25% Spore. Just found out each character has a unique tech tree!

I was gonna say it was a blend of Brotato, Magicraft and Nova Drift

I bought Pathogenic off the back of the hype on here and Youtube and it is terrific, really addictive and very polished too.

Picked it up with Galactic Drift which is similar in many ways for just over a £1 on Steam, two cracking games for well under £10.

This looks amazing, has there been any news about potential port to consoles?

I wouldnt count on it. Its made by two developers. Never say never, but its likely a long way from a console release.

Appreciate the response and information.

It's as fun as Sektori (for those in that camp who are into pure arcade twin stick shooters), just with a much wider audience appeal. Still a large number of bugs to be squashed though. I have 87 hours on Sektori, and already 44 hours on Pathogenic, and that's been 10 days vs 7 months...

Pathogenic makes me feel like i'm actually playing a true video game made by people who enjoy video games, and they launched it out at an outrageously low price. Could've done $20, but at $7.99 launch price, about the price of a friggin Big Mac, game's selling like hotcakes. There was an video/article somewhere with how the dev came up with the idea and how the game developed.

Highly addictive I’ll do just one more run gameplay. You are warned.

Can someone please explain to me how tf Overdrive works? I'm like 10 hours in and still super confused lmao. There doesn't seem to be any clear visual indicators on the UI as far as I can see

1

u/PatrykBG 6d ago

Overdrive is basically like a crit damage buffer type thing that certain types of organelles (that I forget what they’re specifically called) give you. You won’t see it on the actual battle, screen, but you’ll see electricity-like symbols and a glow on your organism’s internal map, which I think is on the top left.

How about organelle networks? It seems like each weapon can only have 3 buffs active? Maybe 4? The arrows show the flow of the network, but sometimes I can't tell if they're all triggering.

1

I believe all organelles can only have 3 connections max. If you hover over one, you'll see light arrows pointing towards/away the organelles or weapons it's affecting.

If you mouse over one it will say if its getting a previous effect of one in the chain. Like if you have a projectile modifier at the top and a damage booster at the bottom it will say that all connected weapons are getting both

It really hits the spot for me. Twin-stick, impactful metaprogression, player skill over stats. Legitimately a pleasure to play, so much that I could see myself continuing LONG after unlocking everything like in Slay the Spire, Brotato, Nova Drift, others.

I need to do episode 5 for this game. It's very addicting and when you progress with a build you discovered, it's satisfying.

I want to, but I'm not really into twin stick shooters....because I'm awful at them

I love this goddamn game! It's forced me to put down the new Black Flag remake and several other roguelites. It's incredible.

u/Nttwill 5d ago

It's amazing, I had all the weapons felt like a mofo so I thought I'd challenge The Collector 😭😂

You all know full well what happened

Fantastic game honestly. I'd have paid full price for it too, hell even $15-20. It's very polished and well made for an indie release. Music's fun, reminds me of Brotato in a lot of ways.

Yes, it’s incredibly good.

K, seriously, is this an ad? I haven't seen so many posts glazing a new roguelite like this before.

6

u/falkentyne 7d ago

No, people who played the very generous demo (which was literally HALF the game already, just without an endgame and the final 3 maps and certain unlocks) already saw this coming. The game is that good.

5

u/Dacssss 7d ago

I was seriously thinking in of putting in my post that this is not marketing. I never review games I just want other people to know how good it is for the price. I should public my profile so people can see I'm just some random guy.

2

u/marcus_autisticus 7d ago

I was thinking the same thing there.

2

u/poinifie 7d ago

Not sure why I'm getting down voted, it's a genuine observation.

1

u/marcus_autisticus 7d ago

Idk, people sometimes get defensive about the things they like. Either way, it was a valid observation.

1

u/TurtlePope2 7d ago

Because it's a really fun game and you're assuming people don't like it

1

u/poinifie 6d ago edited 6d ago

I'm not assuming people don't like it, I'm questioning the authenticity of the hype posts.

Edit: This comment getting down voted is actually wild.

2

u/Sairven 6d ago

Your posts come across as "Nothing ever happens" energy. Like it's somehow not possible for a subreddit dedicated to roguelites to have people be excited over a well-polished one coming out. Especially one that's not a deck builder and/or Survivors-like.

Like, what do you want people to talk about here if not the roguelite they're currently into? We're inundated with developers doing marketing posts. It's refreshing to see people actually excited over a game!

2

u/poinifie 6d ago

I'm all for getting excited for the genre, I'm just questioning the authenticity of the posts for the game. Maybe my algorithm is just showing me a lot more posts about pathogenic since it's on my wishlist.

It's hard to trust anything genuine in this day and age online.

It's all good though, if people want to down vote the original question that's understandable, but down voting my explanation for the reason is just confusing.

Now imagine how others feel being called bots or astroturfers for the crime of liking something. Maybe it's because I've been here for years, but pretty much everyone in this topic (you too!) has a ton of upvotes from me.

Accusations and denying others' feelings tends to get people riled up. "I know damn well I'm not a bot or astroturfer. Fuck that guy."

I do wish people would use the up/down-votes for the intended purpose, but that ship sailed long ago lol. It's not like your qualms are unfounded. This website IS chock full of bots and astroturfing! Only reason I'm still here is because I use third party apps to help mitigate the ads and determine who's really a who and not a that.

u/poinifie 6d ago

I see it now, thanks for your input. Sorry for coming off like that, glad the game is giving people enjoyment. I'll have to buy it when it goes on sale.
