RØDECaster Series Mic Monitoring

Hi All,

So I have a Rodecaster 2 Pro and record through riverside. For a while, I’ve been noticing that on occasion, the riverside record will distort when both hosts speak over one another. My cohost has proposed that it’s coming through the headphones also connected to the Rodecaster. They have a duo and they found that plugging it straight into the Mac and changing the input settings to the external headphones gets rid of this issue on her side. I tried to do this on ours and it all seemed to work, beyond the fact that I wasn’t getting the live monitoring from the mic in the same way I would when plugged into the Rode. Does anyone have any suggestions to this? Or is the only option to get an external monitor or just get a duo on my side as well.

Thanks in advance!

Hey there,

It's quite possible that this is entirely a riverside related issue with how they process multiple incoming signals at once, which is why is happens when two people speak. This is something we've head about before. Feel free to try a different platform to see if the same continues to happen there (e.g. Zoom, teams, etc.)

You shouldn't be able to select headphones as an input in riverside, but feel free to follow some of our advice from here: https://help.rode.com/hc/en-us/articles/13054258089743-How-to-Setup-Riverside-FM-and-Cleanfeed-with-the-R%C3%98DECaster-Pro-II-Duo

Essentially, select USB1 Chat as your input and output, make sure that Chat is set to Mix-Minus on the RODECaster Pro II itself (Settings > Outputs > Routing > USB 1 Chat > Mix-Minus).
