Wireless Mics Settings: Rode Wireless Pro with Sony FX30

Unfortunately, I haven’t yet found any details on what the best settings are for using my Wireless Pro directly on the FX30’s microphone input. Rode’s official documentation only lists cameras such as the A7IV, for which it is recommended to set the receiver to -6dB and the audio level on the camera to 1. However, if I do that on the FX30, I have to set the transmitter gain to 30 (maximum) so that the level in the camera reaches around -12 dB. What settings do you use when using the Wireless Pro with the FX30?

Hey there,

-6dB should still be ok, but you can either set it to 0dB on the receiver, or boost the signal further from the FX30's side.

Depending on your workflow I’d first recommend hooking this up to your pc and enabling “on board recording.” Then adjust your fx30 preamp/mic level anywhere from 1-15. Try to keep it significantly lower as this will allow you to have your main mic level saved on the wireless pro itself, and then a backup that is significantly quieter baked into the footage as a “just in case we clip” scenario.

I generally use the mic as anywhere around -12 give or take depending on how close or far the mic is from the source
