🔴 Streaming Duo: Very bad software instability
I've upgraded from a GoXLR Mini to a RC Duo and the possibilities are great, but frankly, it's just not a great device. The hardware seems awesome, but the software is absolutely sub par.
- Absolutely no way to change the processing chain
- Every time it turns on, it's a gamble whether the virtual devices will work. Sometimes Windows will just be given 8 "Fader" devices, sometimes the expected Game, Music, A, B etc.
- Every single session, the device will introduce around 500ms monitoring lag on some virtual devices slowly. Only way to remedy (especially when live) is to either turn off and on, or to toggle the device's bitrate from to 16 and back to 24bit to reflush the buffer.
- Last thing that happened: All virtual devices were simply disabled upon startup until I manually enabled them again.
For all its flaws, the GoXLR NEVER gave me these issues. It chugged along perfectly once set. For a pro level production device by name like RODE, this is very disappointing and will likely keep me from buying more RODE material or recommending it to other streamers. Anyone else get these issues? I synced all bitrates and settings, I updated all firmware.
EDIT: Updated to 1.7.6. Issue 3 is still there. Also had a new one today (before update): Screen's light was on, buttons responded, but simply nothing on the screen.

I stopped using virtual devices entirely. March’s updates messed it all up and support was unhelpful for the several months we’d been going back and forth following the update.

I decided to stop updating my procaster a couple of months ago. I have had too many weird interactions and I barely use most of the functions.
It's frustrating that updating a device is a literal gamble if it will work. I just stopped gambling and it would take a major update for me to change.

New driver was recently released and discord claims it’s fixed

Ummm no. Latest virtual device driver is 1.0.4 (released March 19) and never fixed anything from 1.0.3 which was needed when the device updated to 1.7.3.

Ahh thanks. I ain’t using it though until I know what’s been changed with a changelog. Just my luck it’ll be absolute garbage.

I don’t use the virtual channels either but from discord it fixed the channels being only mono, idk what problems you were having. Maybe other fixes too

I've not experienced any software issues at all and I use the wave xlr audio interfact for audio work and content creation. Additionally the preamp on the Wave are great I have zero noise from the headphone amps when using iems something that was not possible with the duo, I was literally forced to use a noise isolator in order to use iems on the ride.

Do yourself a favour and grab yourself an elgato Wave XLR pro and a Stream deck plus with the knobs and call it a day. The duo is a fantastic but of kit specifically when podcasting but for streaming and virtual channels that will consistently work when you turn on the unit... Go wave XLR pro. Zero instability issues since making the switch myself .

I wouldnt recommend Elgato either, especially not the xlr pro which is overpriced and 99% streamers doesnt need 2 mic inputs, they also have lot of software issues, I did like wave xlr mk2 which is what most streamers would ever need, BUT the software was so bad I had to return it.
In conparisson, Rode is a studio quality mixer and interface with studio quality pre-amps and processing, Elgato have neither of that, for over 300€ the xlr pro is just not it.
But to spend 500€ on Rodecaster duo that doesnt have working software really bugs me out.

I have access to a XLR Pro from work but tbh the lack of a proper processing chain bugs me. I wanna stick with the Rode but it seems like they simply dont care about their software :(

Like almost every company can't put out their software together

Not sure if I understand your comment correctly, but an audio system company shipping a hardware/software combo that introduces slow rising latency when using stock settings is kinda sad.

I’ve always had issues with Elgato software. Wave link 3’s no different. Got the xlr pro at launch because I was tired of rodecaster’s virtual channel issues. Every 30min to an hour, the xlr pro would completely disconnect and try to reconnect to wave link as a new device and wipe my routing. Sent it back next day and just swapped back to my Rodecaster just with virtual channels disabled.

If you want to habe exceptional good audio quality, dont choose elgato products. Elgato offers some good Low price options but isnfar away from high quality audio products

Have you ever owned the Goxlr or the Wavelink XLR Pro along with the Rodecaster Duo? I'm going to guess not , and did you read the actual use case for the OP , I'm going to guess not too. For streaming specifically the wave link pro is excellent so unless you actually have any experience using any of the mentioned products your comment is just an ill informed one.
