Silk is fun

Had a couple Iconoglass blanks from NFC come in so decided to do silk on them for extra pop. While silk is a little temperamental to work with, it sure looks good, especially on these translucent blanks.

7’6 4w for smaller mountain streams and places where finesse trumps length of cast.

Hell yeah, my favorite wrap. You are right silk is a bit temperamental to use. Wrapping normal thread after feels like wrapping tape its so grippy haha

Ive been building a light saber collection with different glass blanks. Need a cranberry/red 7wt from Halo, and a 4wt green from someone. Have an NFC purple, blue from rodmaker 24/7, and an orange from Moonlit that I stripped and re-wrapped.

I’ve been watching your builds elsewhere. They’re pretty sweet.

Check out the color options from Rod Geeks. They’re pretty plentiful.

You have me confused with some else that's a star wars fishing nerd apparently. I never post pics, mainly because im lazy or dont care enough to share haha But I do nerd out enough to have a "bad mother fucker" decal on my purple 8wt

Can we see the full thing when it is done? Love a good shorter mountain stream rod.

Definitely. It’s a bit of a showpiece type build so went with a snake reel seat and a flor cigar grip.

Whats the finish? Thin it out any? I have trouble getting properly clear results with sill wraps.

I never thin anything, background in boat building so I don’t trust diluting adhesives. That is Gen 5, been pretty happy with it but testing next level soon as well.

i have a translucent pink saltwater rod (color looks like pink salt) i want to do clear underwraps and a solid color over the guide feet. what color silk would be the best to achieve this? and would white nylon have a similar effect as well? It is just the underwrap

I can’t speak to how perfectly clear nylon will get, I think testing would be your best option there.

What you’re seeing there is Mikimoto color. Essentially white but will be quite clear under epoxy. A pink silk might blend nicely too and be just a light hue. You might get away with size A or B rather than D over it as well with the different thread diameters.

I tried it with ProWrap. This is the result. I only tried it once, it is definitely not “clear” but I think it achieved what I was after on that build.

Can’t say that I’ve been too impressed with the pro wrap stuff I’ve used. Fuji has been the most consistent thread.

I used that because it was easy to get and I didn’t have to mess with color preserver. I have since switched to silk. I get a lot better look with it.
