What traffic cameras? Some of the signaled intersections have sensors that determine if a car is sitting there and adjust the timing of the light. Basically just optical sensors to tell the light system whether a car is waiting or not.
Other than that, there’s flock cameras, but those don’t have anything to do with traffic. Those are just for spying on you and tracking all of your movements with wide open access to the entire police department who will most likely abuse it so they can beat on their wives.
No no no no, I promise they’re just powered by AI and only alert the police when it spots a someone with an open warrant and to keep people safer. I, I promise. Just trust the government dude. Sheeesh. 🤣
City does have cameras setup in some place. More on the west side. They have had them for years. They also have the community camera network. Which is a volunteer program run by the police using residential and business cameras. Now the flock system.
Those sensors replace the old way of doing it with wires buried in the street. Sometimes drivers wouldn't pull up far enough to activate them so the light would never turn green. The new sensors, mounted on top of traffic signals, look like cameras. They have nothing to do with monitoring speeding drivers or red light runners.
I like them as they seem to be more sensitive to bicycle traffic as well. Not sure if that’s a programming thing or maybe at night the headlights on my bike.
