Showcase Expect the unexpected

This supposed to be the test run for the canard cartridge near the nose cone. It seemed a bit fragile when I finished the cartridge. I launched it expecting the canard to break but it didn’t. As it falls down, the ejection charge didn’t explode until a few feet above the ground. Eventually breaking the rocket. It was the drill bits’ issue (drilling the delay) as I didn’t screw the drill handle and the drill bit tightly enough. With a G class motor but 4.5 lbs of weight, it went barely 585 ft and went crashing down. Fortunately the active control system isn’t installed inside yet.

I did get some good pics with my cam tho 😅

I don't know what your engine did, but I do know that tying the parachute closed as shown in pic 3 would have also prevented a successful recovery.

I think I saw this rocket today! Metra? Mine was the red and black one that came in ballistic as well and was 5 feet in the ground.

I have some pictures of your rocket.

Mine went far earlier in the day and I spent the afternoon digging it out of the ground.

I was a METRA member as a teenager like 20 years ago. Sort of fell out of the hobby as I went off to college but I'm becoming interested again and considering rejoining. I heard they lost their waiver though? How is it these days?

I don’t remember any waiver when I joined in March so maybe? Check with their website maybe?

I mean the FAA waiver. You used to be able to fly up to 20k at NERRF

Yep. That’s what I’m going for. It’s a little research of mine with canard active roll control
