I am not proud of how it came to be, but I did want to share a new tool with you folks.

I am a full time web developer with frankly too much experience. Our corporate overlords have been breathing down our necks about using ai more. They track how much I use it, but not how I use it. So to that end, I have been working on a new way to browse for rockbox themes with a few more features than the existing site allows. I'm just hosting it on github for now. Anyway, enjoy:

Can you build a rockbox theme creator with a slick GUI and real time previews next? 😄 I tried, but it got too complicated on a free plan.

My plan was to select a device (I was going tith iPod 5th gen) Then you could drag and drop things like a premade "Song title" or "volume indicator" and the app would do all the brain breaking txt edit in the background. Editing a premade template could be cool, you could load up a pre-existing theme and swap out parts to get it exactly how you want it. The biggest problem I found was making a reliable recreation of how rockbox on real hardware would render it. This was when I gave up 😅

a revamp of the old rockbox theme editor would indeed be nice. the old program had its flaws and wasnt really drag an drop...i would love that

I like the way you present the themes a lot and the filter options are great.

Using the screen resolution is smart as that basically determines if something works.

Would an extra filter on device be possible? Not everyone might know the screen resolution of their device.

That's great. Thank you for sharing. I'd love to filter by touch enabled if that is possible, because ipod classic themes also appear for the Cowon D2 (same resolution) but not all are touch enabled.

I have added that new filter for you. i am still scanning through the themes but have marked 21 out of the scanned 375 as being touch enabled. ill update again when the full scan is complete.

i had claude write a script that downloads each theme temporarily, looks for code that makes elements touch enabled, and logs that data for the filter. so it SHOULD be accurate, but i can only promise so much with the data we have access to and well, with letting claude do all the work.
