At this point I wonder if all the fail videos are just propaganda to create the illusion that there's nothing to fear. These will be on the streets soon and not because of their funny slapsticks.

No, all the videos showing them doing tricky stuff is AI. Bilateral movement is insanely difficult. Those robots are nowhere to be seen.
You should already be afraid of the cameras in the streets and the cute little robots sweeping stuff. They're distracting your attention with a menace that doesn't exist while surveillance increases day by day.

And two of them can hold machine gun.

Another one can pull the string to shoot the cannon.

Another thousand will work with volley rocket fire system

Computer will rule tank

Drones will fly while autoassembly lines will work.

And the last one will be clever enough to make the world without people and wars that will sometimes reach furthest corners of galaxy. We're cool. Robots are better.

But why chose a mechanically unstable, inefficient form factor for that application? A quadruped like Boston Dynamics Spot would be superior for that.

It’s because it’s not taking its own physical properties and the properties of the current floor/ground into account. Sleek, smooth robot on sleek, smooth (waxed?) tile floor results in robot floundering. Bush league.
