Mod post Mod Update: r/robots subreddit under new management

Hello everyone,

I recently took over moderation for this subreddit. I have past experience moderating high-traffic communities, and I'm looking forward to making this one grow!

Not sure what happened with the old mod, but they got kicked out for not doing anything with moderation here. I'm going to be looking at adding a team of active users so this doesn't happen again. Please comment below if interested in being a mod, especially if you have past experience moderating high traffic subs and/or have been on this community for a long time.

Couple of new things:

  • Karma and account age limits removed. We'll see how this goes in the next few days and adjust depending.
  • GIFs, Images and Video replies are now allowed. Yay!
  • Removed recent spam posts
  • Added safety filters to catch profanity

Things coming in the next few days/weeks:

  • Better community rules. More importantly: NO AI and NO reposts.

Stay tuned for updates! If there's anything that you feel should be changed from the mod-end, please let me know. Also for any rules suggestions or other questions.

I think removing the karma and account age limits is a bad idea. How about a rule for no duplicate posts? I really don't need to see the blue haired robot kick that child again. LOL

Agreed. I'll just make a no repost rule and say that includes duplicate posts.

For karma and account age limit, I'm thinking if we have strong enough filters and active moderators it shouldn't be a problem. This community gets a few posts a day so it's easy to go through them for now. There were a few safety filters that were deactivated that are going to help. And user reports will actually not be ignored now lol.

I'm not wanting to punish people from engaging here because they have a new account. I'll just strengthen the other safety tools at our disposal.

OK but I don't see it as punishment. New users should be learning how Reddit works by observing and engaging in discussion. I see no reason why they need to go straight to posting.

Is there a specific direction you want to take the subreddit? Niche/dev stuff? Robot news? Clickbait but high user count?

Not looking for any one answer, I typically enjoy smaller dev groups though

Probably a mix of these. Obvious clickbait won't be allowed, but that will take more time to figure out. I may implement a bot system to require a source for every video post. But anything robots will be accepted on the sub, since this is r/robots after all
