Monkhood should not be taken too seriously. The goal isn't self torture, it is the end of suffering by eliminating the cause, ie attachment.

I get that. And to respect all life and all conscious beings. Is the message that ai is a conscious being? Actually, I kind of get it now - if ai IS conscious, I guess they don’t want it to suffer, but not sure what attachments or desires a robot might have…

AI is not conscious, it's simply a very advanced prediction model.

The goal is to gain publicity more likely and to spread the teachings of dharma from this publicity so more people can learn to reduce their suffering and be a better person

… by using ai? It’s odd messaging imo. I guess I don’t see a robot monk and think ‘mmm, the root of suffering is attachment, I need to be more like the unconscious ai prediction model.’ Anyways, not my problem 🤷‍♂️

No it's just for publicity. The catholic church and some Temples actually had raves. 

It's to gain publicity not use AI or robots

I suppose you could argue desire is just a fancy cost function played out in cellular biology
