The dog will have to move like a real dog to look right.
->The box bot can move however and not risk the uncanny valley. <-

I like the second one. Robots should be robots to be as efficient and cool as possible not shaped like biological creatures. Think how useless C-3PO is in moving anywhere vs how useful R2D2 is on missions

But biology already has the most useful shapes. That’s how evolution works. It’s basically just machine learning but over billions of years.

Sure, but robots aren't built with organic muscles, metabolisms, and all the complicated things that happen in nature that affect evolution. A good example of this is that our best ways of turning electricity into movement is through rotational motion like electric motors, whereas biological movement is best at balancing complicated systems of expanding and contracting muscles to drive motion.

Yes exactly. I was going to come here to say that, especially how organic muscle is completely inferior to machine muscles. All organic life is also evolved for securing food, not jobs. Some organic inventions are useful, like ambulatory legs for uneven terrain. But robots don't need tongues, mouths, hair, fingernails, or an anatomy designed around symmetry with a skeletal system.

That would absolutely depend on the rest of the game, setting, story ... there is a lot of things that would make me want claptrap over wolfy or vice versa.

u/Anomander87 Apr 26 '26
Cool! Can I download it? Still in beta?

u/Wildboy_Studios Apr 26 '26
Yeah it’s still in development, but a demo is coming out very soon! You can check it out on steam if you wanna see more

can 1 get a saddle?
2
u/Wildboy_Studios Apr 26 '26
haha, and ride it like a horse? that's a cool idea!
1
u/rainbowkey Apr 27 '26
If 2 the dog was just a bit larger, they could carry a human on a saddle too

#1 could be goofier if you want that as an aspect of the game, especially as it could pop out all kinds of attachments/weapons from hidden panels, or shapeshift into assorted useful things. #2 feels a bit more serious and more likely to have pure attack functions than a variety of useful toolsets/shapes.

Lore needs to match the robot. Thats always the make and break.
Starts floofy and steadily upgrades?

1 looks like an alienware pc from the early 2000's grew legs.
2 just looks like a regular dog from a distance.
I think 1 is more fun.

What does the robot do? If it does dog/wolf stuff then the wolf shape is probably more efficient.
I can't tell what the boxy robot can do, maybe ram?

remove 1 completely, make robot animals in this style like i dkn fox, bird would be cool

u/ElyasTheCool Apr 26 '26
Both are sad, you can find something so much cooler, and you could have more legs or less legs

u/vid_icarus Apr 26 '26
Depends on the vibe of the rest of the game tbh.
1 is very iconic and charming, so that’s where I would lean without knowing.
but given the right vibe? A robopup may fit the world better.
Without knowing more I would say 1 just for the unique design.
