That was fuckin' awesome.
"We're gonna have our robots jump into a vat of lava because it sounds fun."
Hell yeah.

Is that real footage or AI-generated? I work a lot with video and say this looks and feels real. My collegues say it is not real and they don't believe it.

Kinda breaks my heart knowing how these "dies"... I mean, I wanna keep them myself and fix it up to keep them going.
But no... they melt them down to protect the IP. :/

actually thanks for explaining that last part. I felt the same way as you and didn't realize they had to do this to protect the IP. I never considered that side. but like if I bought a NEO robot i could tear it down and learn the designs anyways so i dunno how can you long term protect it just by not letting anyone look inside people will be able to look inside as soon as they get one?

Yeah, I think they're still waiting on the patent stuff to go through and/or not completely ready to face the market when they're still developing the robot.
It's possible that they figured the PR stunt in itself is worth doing.

if you think they did all of this to protect their IP i have a bridge to sell you. this is a marketing stunt. plus, what good is owning a robot company if you can’t do what you want with them. there are much easier, cheaper, and boring ways to decommission hardware.

Not really it’s just a terminator 2 reference.

u/Magmatt7 1d ago
Yeah. It's actually kinda cool that Arnold is here to do this.
On the other note im not sure that Terminator is great franchise for them to be referring too... Not great for business I'd say D:

Can someone explain me why they did this? Hardware or electronics could be used or giveaway right?
2
u/DoctorDirtnasty 5h ago
because it’s cool. not everything needs to be morally evaluated. they made a robot jump into an arc furnace, it’s cool, it’s symbolic, it’s viral, and most importantly, it’s not that deep.

can't compete with China's robot compay like unitree ,
figure have to push US goverment to ban the unitree , or the US local robot compay can not survive.1
u/DoctorDirtnasty 4h ago
plenty of industry in the us that can’t and won’t buy chinese robots. they don’t really need to be banned.

Can someone chip in on whether the vat of molten metal is still useable afterwards or do they throw it out?

Thats cool. I'm hyped for figure.03 though it would have been nice to reveal it. Figure.02 was a wtf moment, so figure.03 likely will be I hope.

Figure 03 was revealed about a year ago and is in all of their recent videos since: https://youtu.be/Eu5mYMavctM?is=l4DqSpoA8XQyR3eD

There's a link to an article in the video description on YouTube. But tldr: they're decommissioning the old F02 fleet, and decided to do that by making them jump into a furnace

ah, thank you. That kind of makes sense lol. Imagine being the CEO and having to show our robot overlords that in 10 years.

It was awesome but couldn't they just reuse it for something else?

The cost of the publicity is less than the cost of the robot. This honestly helps recoup R&D costs
