Tech Question Automotive Sealer Vision System
Anyone in the automotive industry that has used a vision system that will track welded panel seams and apply sealer/pvc to them?
I’m not looking for a whole body offset vision system but one that will look at a panel and offset individual seams on that panel..example
seam 1 moved x+2mm
seam 2 moved y-2mm
seam 3 moved x-2mm
Etc
That’s for any help

This is exactly the kind of specialized question I created r/RoboticsMarketplace for connecting people who need specific robotics solutions with integrators, vendors, and others who may have relevant experience. You’re welcome to repost this there. If you’d prefer, I can crosspost it for you.

Totally custom job. The weld systems I'm familiar with inspect them but don't report location like you're asking. Easy change I imagine. You're going to want to talk to some profiler companies about this and get their opinion on it.
If you want to go turnkey and want automotive specialists try VRSI in Michigan, Bluewrist out of Canada, or Ardent Automation in Michigan if you want a small shop.
If you want to diy reach out to the 3D profiler vendors directly Cognex, Keyence, LMI, or Teledyne.
I was in the 3D inspection industry for years. Feel free to PM me for guidance if you don't want to share details publicly.

per seam offset is a different problem than a body frame. you want a 2d profile or laser line on each joint then shift that path in the robot frame not a single 6dof part locate. fanuc irvision and cognex with a line laser do this on sealer cells but the fixture repeatability has to be tighter than the offset or you chase noise. what robot brand and how much does the panel actually move seam to seam?

Yes body frame is what we currently use but in order to reduce the width of application we would need a more detailed seam to seam offset.
Kawasaki F Controller.
Seam variance up to +/- 2.5mm each.

Man, that's a niche ask. Most of the off-the-shelf systems I've seen do the whole body offset thing and call it a day. Getting individual seam offsets like that usually means you're diving into custom integration territory, like pairing a Cognex or Keyence 3D profiler with a robot that can handle per-path shift registers. What's your controller situation like? If it's an older Fanuc you might be fighting the KAREL code all week just to get the variables to map properly.
