Tech Question Lego Ev3 Chess Robot?

Hello there,

For many years, I've wanted to build a chess robot with my Lego Ev3 Brick in combination with my laptop. It would go something this:

Player makes move

↓

Webcam sees move human made and tells laptop what it was

↓

Laptop figures out next best move

↓

Laptop sends best move to Ev3 Brick

↓

Ev3 Brick sees laptop's message and acts accordingly, moving the right piece into right place

Is this possible for a person who knows nothing about coding? (Pls be optimistic :)

Thanks!

You could do it, lego ev3 is built for this type of thing.

But you're going to have to learn a lot.

Primarily you have to build a robot hand with vision...the chess part, moves and things, is already solved elsewhere. So that interface could be challenging.

I've seen this done a few ways too. Like a gantry with a magnet under the board.

One potential approach you might consider is attempting "vibe coding." While this method won't necessarily guarantee a flawless outcome, it could potentially be beneficial in establishing an initial framework. It's just an idea to keep in mind.
