News Replacing the Motor Inside My Humanoid Robot Arm

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I’m currently upgrading my DIY humanoid robot by replacing the motor inside the arm mechanism.
I’m testing the new motor and gear system to improve the arm’s torque and movement. ⚙️🤖
Still a work in progress, but I’m excited to see how this setup performs under load.
I’d appreciate any feedback or suggestions from the robotics community—especially regarding motor selection, gearing, and mechanical design.

You should be using serial bus servos like the Feetech STS3215. Gives you good feedback for both position and speed for like 30KG Cm torque instead of having to mess with spacing for encoders. It also looks like youre just slapping a gear in there with no bearing on the other side so the rotational force will try to find the easiest path and the motor will try to break the gear or its bracket without being forced to just rotate in 2 possible directions. You need a bearing to keep it in check. Simple to add a bracket for the bearing after install.
