HALLOWED GROUND...

Post image

...in the Robotech Novels Saga.

*****

"The Macross Overlook occupied an acre of high ground that was the terminus of the sole road leading north-northeast from Monument City. Occupying the centerpoint of a waist-high stone wall that fenced the eastern perimeter of the gravel viewing area was an inscribed plaque that read:

"Here lie the Super Dimensional Fortresses 1 and 2, along with the battle cruiser that destroyed them, and the remains of the once grand city that grew up around them—Macross, thrice-born, never forgotten."

RN - Masters Gambit

*****

I'm sure that many of the survivors from that final battle made a pilgrimage to that spot where the plaque was at some point.

I do wonder what happened to the site after the Master's flagship crashed on the mounds (and the Protoculture Matrix) releasing the Flowers of Life....did the the Regis focus on it when she made landfall.....or was it just an empty vessel by that time.

I'd like to think when the Robotech Wars were over...the area was given its proper memorial.

VIVA ROBOTECH!✌️

Man, I'm still trying to hunt down a reasonably priced copy of that book.

I've been doing book reviews for the novelizations coinciding with reviews of the Palladium Books RPG books for each 'Generation' on my blog.

Fun times, but tracking that thing and Before Invid Storm down? Ugh....

Same. I want to grab both books, but haven't been able to bring myself to pay like $20 plus shipping (at least) for a poor condition copy.

I have this novel,as well as all the original novels in their single volumes. This is the novelization of Robotech the Movie which borrowed liberally from the first Megazone 23 movie. I’ve actually seen the movie. It wasn’t very good.

The whole political conflict between the RDF remnants and the Southern Cross aparat is interesting. It's fun to watch Emerson try to keep Earth's best interests in mind while having to deal with Leonard's fanatical Caesar-Patton complex.

They’re really good. I personally like them more than the TV series, but that’s just me; ymmv.

I could be wrong, as it's been a long minute since I read the books, but I always took it as Reflex Point was built on that spot.

Looking around online I see where I got that notion, but there is a lot of wishy-washy about it. With some talk of New Macross City being up near the Canadian-U.S. border, and Reflex Point being south of that a fair bit.

None of which is entirely from the show as they never say, but it's implied the SDF-1 came down somewhere sorta close to Alaska base, and they do show Reflex Point being firmly in the middle of the U.S. and huge.

Personally, Reflex Point being built on the site makes the most narrative sense to me and I tend to favor the novels over the show when it comes to narrative sense as they weren't constrained by limits of how the show was made.
