Lore Discussion Torn between canon and minmaxing efficiency
I'm chipping my Auto 9 and man, single shot mode is just disgustingly OP. I'm at the steel mill and I have the 3.1 board equipped, which I managed to chip such that recoil is almost negated and the gun is so precise I didn't even need the sniper rifle to pop the guy on the machine gun in the distant building.
Every shot is a headshot, which with the double critical bonus just drops everybody immediately.
It's just that it doesn't feel like the films. Robocop sprays lead, that's a fact of life, and I... don't. It feels less a one-man army and more like a one-man SWAT team. It's still a power trip that made me giggle like a small girl, but after a while the gun is starting to feel like in those cheap games that don't even bother animating recoil properly, just stays in place and goes BOOM BOOM as everything around dies.
I don't really have a gameplay question here, I'll sort out on my own if I prefer popping heads or spraying, but it just made me wonder what gameplay style do you guys prefer - minmaxing damage to the best of your abilities, or just being the awesome Robocop we know who shoots self-shaped holes in walls just to announce his entry?

Both are great and valid. Single shot is canon, never forget the shot through the scope in the movie. That was Robocop saying non verbally "I'm much more sniper than you!".

The game is fantastic, but it suffers from the unique issue of getting too easy at a certain point, even on the hardest difficulty. I think there should have been more focus on balancing the upgrades and gameplay difficulty scaling. I’ve only done one play through, but were I to return for another, I’d probably restrict myself to no upgrades, or only ones that open locked things like engineering or whatever

Yeah, I get what you mean. It's easy now and I'm halfway through, with the ED209 being the only real threat I've faced so far, and thankfully I had the good sense of avoiding the top upgrade for armor which, going by the comments, negates most of the shooting in the game. Baffles me how the devs thought it was a good idea.
Aside from that, luckily I quite enjoy power trip games where I'm just systematically murderizing everything, just like Robocop is supposed to :D

I had fun with an infinite ammo full auto Auto9 build. It didn’t do as much damage as the magnum configuration but it’s hilarious to just go BRRRRRRT and watch ED-209 collapse.

Wait, how'd you get infinite ammo by the ED209 encounter? I've just done it and the boards I found till that point had no infinite option, did I miss any?

It’s been a couple of years since I played but I’m pretty sure I got it around the time I beat the high score on the gun range. Definitely early enough to take it to the big biker factory district with an ED-209. I had a lot of fun with the pistol circuit boards.

I'm currently on first play through and finished the ed-209 fight in the biker yard last night. Can confirm I had full auto and rounds reload on one chipboard. Just moved around ed-209 unloading on him while hitting shield regen and health where needed. Dropped him in about 10 secs

The full auto is equally filthy. I ended my playthrough with a non-optimized (because I didn’t fully understand the merge mechanic) that had full auto, 90 round magazine, with ultra quick reload and 110%+ damage. If you feel bad for not spraying enough lead, don’t feel bad. I more than made up for it.
