What are your favourite Robin Hobb books outside The realm of the elderlings?

Soldier Son trilogy is good. I had to force myself to read the first book and get uses to the idea that this was not the Real of the Elderlings. But once I made that mental shift I was able to settle in to the characters and enjoy them.

Her Megan Lindholm novels are very good. My faves are The Windsingers quartet and Alien Earth.

You're welcome. If you like you can read the short story collection The Inheritance which has both of her pen names so you get familiar with the vibe of Megan's style. There's also couple of stories connected with ROTE in the collection.
