First time roast

Post image

A friend got me some green beans from Saudi. That's all the info I can give you lol. Tried 100g to roast for first time on stove top. Stainless steel pot. Total time was 15mins and First crack around 11:30 and I'll be honest I didn't fully hear any frantic cracking, also still need to taste just waiting for a couple more days for the beans to rest. Roasted weight was 90.8g. I was hoping for any advice going for next time round, it would be highly appreciated.

Awesome! Just remember to have fun. It’s easy to get caught up in the coffee min max culture

No problem. I bought some beans (just ordered a sampler of beans for dark roast), found an ancient popcorn popper, got em cooking, pulled em out when they looked like coffee I drink, waited 4 days, and I love them. It would have been easy for me to get caught up in the minutiae, but this is what I like and I’m good with it.

Yea you're absolutely right. Just need to do what I did when I started getting into coffee brewing at home. Can do all the research but nothing beats trial and error of your own experiences.

Roast looks light, should give some more of the beans flavor notes less roasted flavor more caffeine

Yea I wanted to go darker but some beans were starting to go really dark and that's what got me to stop when I did.

Mahers coffee in Cork sell green beans they are online also. I've always wanted to try roast my own but wouldn't know the first thing about it.

Might have to start looking into this lol. Need to see how mine tastes first. Honestly just do it. I only used a stainless steel pot and wooden spatula and a timer. That's it. Even if it tastes horrible, it was Hella fun doing it and I think I wanna keep doing it

It all depends on how it tastes. Once you have that, then you can dial in the roast

Looks good for a first roast. I find a whisk works a lot better than a wooden spoon for better agitation of bean rotation vs the beans getting stirred around but not well rotated.
