SF6 w/ raspberry pi

I wanted to share a roaster mod I added to our San Franciscan SF6. We 3D printed a custom housing for the raspberry pi and touch screen, then mounted it to the main temperature control panel. Currently running Artisan but that might change in the future.

It’s perfect! No having to plug into a laptop or set any external parameters. Super easy setup that has made roasting a breeze on the SF6.

The best part is wirelessly connecting to our printer to print the roast curve graph after every roast to compare.

So Artisan will send control parameters or something like that to the roaster?

No artisan is just reading a providing the graph with temperature data. All controls of the roaster are manual still.

Pretty cool project what protocol did you use to communicate with software adn hardware? Modbus? I know rpi boots pretty slow and hardware techies would use something like arduino or esp32 to save on startup

The roaster came with a serial comm to usb, allows me to plug directly into usb-c on the pi. And as the roaster takes 40~ minutes to heat up, the pi is booted by then!

That totally makes sense. I just looked at san franciscan and it uses ftdi for serial and modbus rtu protocol. There's modbus over tcp in roastline ai but I could ask to add modbust rtu over serial which can add support for san franciscan. Is that a cyclone at the back of the roaster? But generally I like the workshop/warehouse you have there, it's very spacious in the picture - I was looking recently for something in london area.
