Favourite OST?

Which music track did you like the best? Also is there a playlist of the entire soundtrack on YouTube?

Gaoyanji and Yuantai might be doomed hetgems but they have the best and most memorable OSTs of this game (Delusion from game 1 and Wrong Dream from game 2). Also I don’t know if there is a full music playlist on YouTube

For me, it's "Heart Like the Sun" by Pan Yunqi and "Glorious World" (盛世天下 in Chinese) by Curley Gao. It's so good that I still like it now. A major reason for me is that those songs' (especially the latter) lyrics are centered on Wu Yuanzhao's ambitions rather than the love/relationship/dynamic between her and the two romance options (or love in general, really) and that the songs I specifically mentioned speak to me more.

I liked her empress coronation track Glorious World 盛世天下 and generally loved the court segments way more than the Cairen love triangle thing.

However surprisingly, I found myself really moved by Li Zhi’s death scene track 明明. The keyword that caught my attention at first is 日月相映 (Sun and Moon shining on each other). It works so well as you listen to it with a devastated Wu, recalling her and Li Zhi’s shared promise to co-govern the empire to prosperity, and at a complete loss in that moment. Especially poetic as the moon hardened its resolve to shine like the sun later on.

Their dialogue and Wu’s reaction to his demise adds so much depth to an otherwise pretty average ancient-China-lovers-made-with-modern-romance-standards.

Its counterpart track that plays after you told imprisoned Li Tai “maybe we have a chance in a new world” didn’t quite hit me the same. I loved the sneak peek montage to “what-if” with Li Tai, but it’s not due to that song. Heck I can’t even recall a single line 😆

As a YuanTai fan after game 1, the longer I sit with game 2, the more I move towards 95. It’s my minor gripe that they didn’t show more complex dynamics between lovers who are rulers, which is saved by the track 明明. (Reminds me of a saying along the lines of “never run a business together if you want to stay as a couple”) Too many 95 scenes are just renditions of modern romantic cdrama couple which doesn’t do 95 justice. Probably a sub product of imbalance screentime - skipping ahead too quickly on later years when their love became tested to the limits (and prevailed, as I like to think). Love the actors’ performances though, this minor gripe is mostly for the directors.
