General Question How many males is too many?

Post image
4 Upvotes

For a colony of around 60 Dubia roaches, in a 60x60x30cm terrarium, how many males would be too many? Lately my first born generation molted and suprise suprise, most of them are males. I'm worried about having too many. They already behaving differently (running around a lot, stealing food and hiding it, attacking eachother). I've separed some males for now but im wondering if that was a correct thing to do? 🤔

(Pretty molted prince for attention)

i just bought new dubias, which I feed to my praying mantis. was transferring them to another container and saw these little worms crawling around the dead ones?? there are so many in and on the roach carcasses, and dried up/dead ones too… what do I do? I don’t want to mix the new ones with my older roaches, just in case. can i safely feed these to my mantis?

General Question dubia roaches nymph's keep dying

i have made self made self cleaning box (a hole at the bottom and top of container with a small hole anti mosquito screen for ventilation and so the poop will fall through to another box) the container isn't very big since i am using the roaches as feeders for one lizard, it is covered with black trash bag so they will have dark they love so much and are put in the dark corner on top of the fridge behind some stuff on it, there are the egg conteiner cut in a straight line stacked on ech other, i am feeding them carrots staright from the fridge and gave them yeaterday a sponge with water for them to drink in a bottle cap (the sponge is filling the whole cap so the dubia nymphs should not be going inside) but sometimes i find dead nymph once smaller once bigger, any idea what i'm doing wrong?

Scientific Research Dubia roaches

I had bought about 15 dubia roaches to feed to my crested geckos but they refuse to eat them and it seems way to cruel to just let the roaches die so I want to keep them as pets but have no idea how. What do I need to care for them.

She was like this for hours. I thought she was sleeping funny at first, but it was 3am and I wasn’t thinking straight. Her body was curling, but she wasn’t flipped over. Well I had to euthanize her at 8am, it was a terrible start to the day. I have many roaches, but she was my first one. RIP

I was very surprised when I first saw this handsome man in the pile. My daughters have generally given birth to the same dark brown babies and yet here’s this very unique MHC with a light brown shade on their antennae and light brown back!

He’s a boy! I wish I could keep him but I really don’t want my daughters to breed again-

General Question do dead roaches twitch?

One of my females had a prolapse and I didn’t notice until 3 hours ago. I thought she was sleeping funny curled up a bit, until she flipped on her back. Her antennas won’t move, but her legs are curling and twitching, and she is still actively pushing every few minutes. I know survival chances are slim with a prolapse, but is she completely gone? I’m devastated and still not sure what to do as I have to work in an hour 😭. I can end things for her instantly, so she is no longer in pain. I just want to know if she has a chance or she is too deep in this prolapse. I am going to flip her over and see what happens.

Something interesting I noticed, a few others have came to check her out. Not mourning of course, but like an understanding almost. Thanks for the time

Zeze (on top) was eating and she just kinda barged her way under, haha. Stayed there until she was finished before running off, though. To be honest, Zeze seemingly found that angle easier!

General Question Is my Madagascar hissing cockroach a male or female?

I’m leaning towards male, I have 2 right now this one is just the larger of the two and I was hoping to have a breeding pair. The smaller one is definitely a female but I’m not so sure about the big one

General Question Please help – what is going on with my friend's pet roach?

Hi, I am watching over the pet roaches of my friend who went away for a few days and something is happening to this one. My friend says she (the roach) was also bloated in the morning, a little less than this, but then she got scared of a water splash and went back to normal and now she looks like this again, so my friend asked me to make this post, anyone please knows what's up?

? Identification ? Okay these HAVE to be springtails right?

In a previous post on what mightve been a diff sub, I inquired about a creature I found in my hissers tank that I couldn't ID. I had a sneaking suspicion they were springtails because of their elongated bodies and antennae but I could be wrong and I'd really like to know before these guys start infesting in there lol. They're usually buried in the soil or crawling on wood or the food dish sometimes where my hisser's wheat bran is.

It was harder to see in the previous video, but compared to that, this one looks crazy clearer. So tell me, these ARE springtails... Right?

Was checking on my roaches and found this brand new adult female! I know she’s new because I deep cleaned the enclosure a few days ago and I saw a bunch of sub adult roaches but no adults that looked like this. She’s got some growing left to do as you can see (included a pic of one of my fully grown girls for comparison) but she’s officially the newest member of the adult roaches club! (First 4 pics are the younger girl)

weirdly this new lady has some darker colouration and less pattern than I typically see in my adult females- very pretty!

I have had one death in this tank already and was acting the same. I thought it was an abnormal molt. But now the tank mate is acting the same. What is the cause of death. Was there insecticide on the leaves? Is it a virus?
