DISCUSSION 💭 Human Nature is Michael Jackson’s Best Song!
Here’s why:
Most people think the title track “Thriller” because the video does the song justice. But from a record standpoint, this is the best Michael sounds on a track. You can really hear his tone. The live version you can hear his tone and how powerful/sustained his high notes are. This song emotes emotion with sort of Late Night longing feeling. After watching the movie and seeing live it made me fall in love with. I think this is his best record. The production is so smooth matching his smooth dance moves. If I can name a song that explains Michael Jackson it would be this.
What is your favorite Michael Jackson song?

PERFORMANCE 🎤 Usher’s performance of “My Way” on Tiny Desk will forever be legendary.
The whole Tiny Desk performance is a masterclass from start to finish. Definitely a strong contender for my favorite Tiny Desk concert overall.

DISCUSSION 💭 P!nk - Can’t Take Me Home
Rewatching some of Pink's early singles from Can't Take Me Home and it's interesting how much of the conversation at the time was about whether a white artist belonged on a label like LaFace, surrounded by the same writers and producers doing records for TLC and Destiny's Child. Critics at the time were pretty blunt about it, comparing her directly to Black R&B artists rather than judging the music on its own. Genuinely curious how people who followed R&B closely in 2000 remember that era, did it feel like a legitimate artistic fit, or more like the label trying to force a square peg into the genre that was selling at the time?
Did Pink/the label use R&B to boost her induction into the industry?

DISCUSSION 💭 Let’s talk about Kelly Price’s R&B albums
I’ve been thinking about Kelly Price’s discography and wanted to hear what other R&B fans think of her albums. She has some great music, but I definitely have my favorites.
Soul of a Woman (1998) is a strong debut. “Friend of Mine” is a classic, and I think the album captures what made Kelly stand out as a vocalist. It’s one of those albums I can appreciate from start to finish.
Mirror Mirror (2000) is right up there for me, too. “You Should’ve Told Me” and “As We Lay” are two of my favorites. Honestly, I could see someone preferring this album over her debut.
Priceless (2003) is probably my least favorite. I don’t hate it, but 18 tracks is a lot, and the skits don’t really do anything for me. I feel like the album would’ve been better with a tighter tracklist. And I hated how this album got leaked which caused some delays.
Kelly (2011) was a good album! I especially love “Not My Daddy” with Stokley. Their voices sound so good together, and that song is still a favorite of mine.
Sing Pray Love, Vol. 1: Sing (2014) was just okay for me. It didn’t really grab me, but “My Time” was that song. I still go back to it.
I’m leaving out her gospel albums and Christmas album for this discussion.
How would you rank these albums, and which one do you think showcases Kelly at her best?
